    3. There always circulated an amusing story about Dan Church. He was a lanky, angular man, and they called him "Dr. Dan." The reason was, as the story goes, one day a boy cut his foot. Dr. Dan bandaged up the wrong foot. They never let him forget it. -- danhamrick@earthlink.net Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709-3818 Telephone: 330-454-2376 > Hi, this is interesting to me also since my best friend in grade school > was Joan Church, sister to Carolyn. 3. I am trying to find information on Charles Fornelson, his daughter's Mary, and Sarah, his son's John, Jacob, and Elisha, and his wife, who I think was a Skidmore. Charles was listed with Joseph and Andrew Crouch, and James Lackey in a land grant that was issued Nov. 1 1782 and granted March 6, 1774. His children used the name Nelson instead of Fornelson, Sarah was married to John Crouch Jr., [son of John Sr.] and their family left Tygarts Valley with Joseph, [John Sr.'s oldest son] and his family 1789-1790. Sarah's sister, Mary, married John Crouch, [son of Andrew and Judith Westfall Crouch] she died in 1834, and John later remarried to ELizabeth Whitman in 1836. I would like to find out as much as possible about Charles and his family, especially Mary, who is my greatx3 grandmother. I am also wondering if anyone knows if the Nelson killed in an Indian raid was John, son of Charles. Thank You, Randy

    2. Joy Gilchrist Stalnaker
    3. I am gathering additional facts to write a story for "Goldenseal" magazine (published by WV Division of Culture and History) re the Stalnaker Family. I am looking for interesting stories that may have occurred in the family during the 21st century. I am also looking for the names of the famous and infamous in the family. For instance. . . Stalnaker Hall at WVU --- for whom was it named and why? Are there any modern day heroes in the family? We currently have one Stalnaker serving in the WV Legislature. . . and I have the names of those who have held state public office in the past. I know a great deal about the family in Lewis County and the older generations in Randolph County and the cabin and the Indian battles, etc. It's the more modern info that I need. All help appreciated. . . I will credit resources in my story. Joy Stalnaker "God bless America"

And from what you've listed about Joseph and Joley, I think we could help each other fill in some missing spots. What kind of file can you read? .rtf? .doc? I can read anything you would like to send, esp notes, sources, bios, etc. I have sources tagged for most my items: clerk books, county histories, manuscripts, email, etc. Some people have notes attached explaining some background.

    2. Hi, Darrell, I thought I'd send an email and see how you're doing. Still working on Roy genealogy? I've been busy trying to put together some Harmans and Henkles. Boy, what a mess. I also found some "new" information about some Wolford descendants that moved from Tipton County, Indiana, to just over the border in Illinois. You mentioned a bit ago you were cleaning up the Anderson Roy Cemetery on Rich Mountain. How's that project going? Anything new? New research? Anything we can trade? Regards, Diane

    2. Hello, I have never seen that reference, but there is also this: -The following is from Randolph County orphan court records: 24 Sep 1798 Delilah Mace daughter of Ann Mace assigned guardians William Donoho and later Ebenezer Flanagan (22 June 1801 assignment). Ann is married in 1800 so the assumption is an out of wedlock birth. -The following is from the orphan records of Randolph County, West Virginia: 22 Jan 1798 Abraham Mace, a son of Eve Mace with Asabel Heath assigned as a guardian. I have never run into any descendants of John's daughters other than maybe Margaret and I think that she is actually a daughter of his brother Isaac. All I know is that Ann and Eva died young. Am curious, where did you get the surname for John's wife Mollie? John's mother was an Ann Petty, sometimes called Ann Bogard from her step-father. Bill William Easton-Mace Portland, Or.

    1. [WVRANDOL-L] MACE, RIFFLE, WHITMAN
    2. Hi! It's been a long time since I've been on the list and I need some help! I have just come across a reference from another researcher concerning the following: "Randolph Co. VA 27July 1795 Ordered that Ann Mace's son David Riffel be bound by the overseers the poor of this county as a apprentice unto John Whitman." Now, my many questions.... Can anyone tell me about this Ann MACE? I know she was the d/o John MACE and Ann/Mollie BOGARD. I also know that she married a Samuel HARRIS February 11, 1800 in Randolph Co., VA. I need to know her date of birth and info concerning her death. Is there a will for her and/or her husband that might mention her son David RIFFLE/RIFFEL? Also, does anyone know what happened to her son David RIFFLE/RIFFEL when he was bound to John WHITMAN? Finally, who was John WHITMAN? Wish I was nearby to look up records for myself. I hope you can help! This might be the lead to break down a huge brick wall. Thanks! Cindy Kostka Plymouth Co., MA

Their daughter Ethel Grace, born July 1889 in Reno County, Kansas married Granville Spencer Wells in 1908. brother: Monzel M. Hoff, M.D.- born August 20, 1859 in Barbour County, married September 4, 1890 in Barbour County to Ida M. Teter, a daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth Teter. *********************** All the above was provided by wonderful people doing lookups for me on various lists. My first info is from my grandmother, her sisters all deceased now, and the internet. CLIFTON is my great great grandfather, his daughter, my great grandmother Zetella (STELLA/Cinderella) remembered her sister Loleta, and a brother who worked for the railroad in Grafton. She remembers visiting near Signal Mtn. She thinks Loleta married a Fawcett and had a daughter, Caroline. Clifton remarried Hannah, 1886 and had Ethel, and Della. Clifton reportedly died in 1920, county unknown. I am hoping to fill in the blanks of what happened to all my great grandmother's parents/siblings. She went to live with her Aunt in KS at a young age, and did not go back to WV. Unfortunately we have no pictures. Hope you can find this helpful. Debbie
