I think 1906 is about right for the Margie McCrobie I knew. Her son, Darrell, graduated from high school in 1953. But another son graduated earlier. When I talk with former classmates who lived in Mill Creek (I lived 15 miles away at Valley Head but we all went to the same high school), I will learn more about her. My former wife had known her from Wallace, WV, in Harrison County, and said so after we were married in 1959. I believe she was unmarried at the time of my high school years, 1950-1954. I do know people who will know more about them. But I imagine the Randolph County School system, based in Elkins, should have some information. Whether they keep it private forever, I do not know. If I were seeking information, I would at least call and sweet talk them. If she were born in 1906, it is unlikely, though not impossible, that she is still living. -- dhamrick4@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709-3818 Telephone: 330-454-2376 > No, I don't live in Randoph County - I live in Arkansas!!! The only Virginia Teter I have that fit the time frame (other Virginia is too old to marry a CW vet unless he like older women), is one that was born in Boxley, Hamilton County, Indiana to Jacob Teter and Amanda Harper. Virginia died in Goldsmith, Tipton County, Indiana, 1891. She was between 40-45. I have a LOT of Teters because they marry into SO many collateral lines. They're like potato chips: can't find just one. My ANCESTRAL Teter starts with Mary Barbara Teter who married Jacob Hinkle, 1 Aug 1753. For whatever it is worth, I knew a Marjorie McCrobie who lived in Mill Creek when I went to high school there in the 1950s. She helped cook lunch at the grade school, where the high school kids went for hot lunch. She had at least one son, and I think actually two sons, who attended Tygarts Valley High School. Her son, Darrell McCrobie, was in the graduating class of 1953, one year ahead of me, and his photo is in that year's yearbook which I have and can scan. I have friends who may know more about her when I get a chance to talk with them. -- dhamrick4@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709-3818 Telephone: 330-454-2376 > Is there anyone who can check a birth or death for me - or marriage of her > parents? Is there anyone who can check a birth or death for me - or marriage of her parents? I checked the 'net but the time I need is not available in any source I can find. I found a child on the Randolph County 1910 census, named Marjorie McCroby - age 6. I didn't make a copy of the census whe I looked at it (don't scold). She is listed with Bessie (no different last name shown), and she in the household of Dave McCroby. What I am looking for: date of birth, mother's name - father's name, possible date of death. I don't have any other record of this little girl, and Bessie later had a son with David. Marjorie would have been my dad's aunt, but as near as I can figure, she died before he was born (1925). tHANKS FOR YOUR HELP. Oops - darn 'caps lock'!!!

I have a new email address that I use just for genealogy - it is mccroby@hotmail.com I haveresuscribed with that name. Thanks!
Loved your post - Makes me feel "less alone" in finding an ancestor "lost in Randolph County"!!! I am not from the area, so I don't even know where Dry Fork is, but have you checked to see if there was a church in Dry Fork? Where would people have gone to church? Have you checked for a church in Ohio, where his father John reportedly died/whatever? Could be he was baptised or confirmed in Ohio. What church affilliation does the family now have? That would narrow down the search if you knew they were "long-time Lutherans", for instance. Did you search for John Wolford - as a child on the 1850 census of Randolph COunty? How fortuneate the information you mention was on a marriage license application - I hae spent years on a wild goose chase for information given on a death certificate in Randolph COunty. Te informant was a child - but so far, nothing checks out!!! Good luck on your research! Let's hope you don't have to "write a letter" - in this day of internet research - Heaven forbid!!! Bonnie You say: ...I would dearly love to find a record of my gr-grandfather's birth. He was Calvin WOLFORD, born, according the family, in Oct, 1858, in Dry Fork...
