Tygarts Valley is the name of the high school, and it is located in Mill Creek. It serves the vast, entire south end of Tygarts Valley and so is aptly named. I'll send the photo later today. -- dhamrick4@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709-3818 Telephone: 330-454-2376 > Thanks for the offer of the picture - any quality is better than no picture! > Ha! > > This might sound silly, but I have to ask, since I am not from the area - Is > Tygarts Valley the name of the school, or is it a town? > > Thanks, Dan for your help! What is peculiar about the census finding to me was that her maiden name was McCrobny, and her two sons were named McCroby. Is there an explanation for that? I may have been spelling it wrong earlier. "...her maiden name was..." That is a question I had too, and is why I asked you if you knew if she was married. When I had a baby in 1970, the gal in the other bed had a child named with her maiden, because she was unmarried. I don't guess you have to always give a baby the father's name. This gal named her little boy after her father, and called him "II" (the second), rather than Jr. Just another clue... Thanks for the offer of the picture - any quality is better than no picture! Ha! I just talked with a friend in Mill Creek about Margie McCrobie. She is believed to have been unmarried at the time of her residence in Mill Creek at least in the late 1940s and the 1950s. As stated before, one son was Darrell, a 1953 graduate of Tygarts Valley High school. (I have a yearbook picture that could be scanned if you want it and are willing to accept a photo that will not be the absolute top quality). Darrell's older brother, by a year or two, was Richard McCrobie. -- dhamrick4@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709-3818 Telephone: 330-454-2376

Bonnie, since I live in Elkins, if you will send me exactly what you are searching for, I will be more than glad to do some "leg" work for you at the court house. I'm about 2 miles from it. AND Dan - you are some nice guy to offer to do this. Hi Ethel!!! We meet again with another one of my problems. All I have on her is what I have put in the posts I've already sent, I notice they were all at the bottom of your reply. If it would help you, you might look over them again. But here it is, in a nutshell: 1900 census for Randolph reports she is 6 years old - that would calculate her birth as abt 1904. Her name is given as Marjorie McCroby. She's listed with Archibald McCroby (may be Arch - or some other variation). Wife of Arch is shown as Bessie. That is it... Thanks so much for your kind offer to check on this for me, and good luck!!! :-)
I have been having some trouble tonight - hope this doesn't all look like CODE when it comes up in the list! Hi Dan - Margie McCrobie would be my grandfather's sister. Their father was David Allen McCroby (that's the way we spell our surname - but you see it many different ways). Like I mentioned earlier, the only knowledge I have of her is from finding her on the 1910 census of Randolph County - and there isn't anyone alive that I could ask. My dad and his brother and sister are all dead - she would be their aunt. In doing some editing this week, I ran across her name, and thought I would try again to find her. My grandfather's mother was Cora May Frankhouser. David remarried twice after the death of Cora. That is why I am not sure who her mother was - or if she was the daughter of the wife, and adopted by David. When I was a little girl, we had a lot of contact with the aunts and uncles, but I don't remember this one. Then again, most of them lived in Morgantown by then, and if she was somewhere else, that would explain it. I'm stuck on this one!!! -------Original Message------- From: WVRANDOL-L@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, October 27, 2002 12:19:29 AM To: WVRANDOL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WVRANDOL-L] Vital Records or 1920 census Out of curiosity, can you share why you are interested in Margie McCrobie. Although I will do anything I can to try to help list members, I must confess my greatest weakness in family research in West Virginia involves Randolph County, the county where I grew up. None of my immediate family was born in Randolph. I was born in Tucker County but my research has more involved Webster, Pocahontas and Pendleton with some Braxton and Clay county folks. I will preserve your message in event I am in Elkins sometime soon and can look up the birth record at the Randolph County Courthouse. When I was a kid,, I had little interest in family research and, generally speaking, if you lived in Valley Head you knew no one in Mill Creek until you went to high school there. -- dhamrick4@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709-3818 Telephone: 330-454-2376 > dan > my mother was born in mill creek in 1908. her father was claude leo davis > and her mother was sarah catherine kennedy. i have no information about > them. they were my grandparents. any info would be appreciated. > thanks > > > ==== WVRANDOL Mailing List ==== > Check out the Randolph County USGW site at: > http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvrandol/ > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go > to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >
Errr.....a little snow discouraged you? Where do you live and when did you visit? This is mountain country you know. I got up one Easter morning to 4 inches of snow when I was visiting my mom in Preston Co and not a snow boot in sight. However, we, who live in God's country all have at least one all wheel or 4 wheel drive vehicle or access to one. Just keep motoring along. Snow does not bother me, but ice, now that is a different story. Jean

Hi, Dawn - that's part of my problem, I didn't make a copy of the information, just typed into my lap-top. (live and learn). ...I'm back - just went to look at my files - and although I don't have the anyplace noted other than Randolph County for the 1910 census, I did make a note of the 1920, which says Womelsdorf - that's Coalton today. Maybe this would help. Thank you so much for your offer!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dawn Amos" <cdamos@attbi.com> To: <WVRANDOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 26, 2002 2:00 PM Subject: Re: [WVRANDOL-L] Vital Records or 1920 census > Bonnie, > What town in Randolph Co did you find her in 1910. Just to let you Listers know how appreciated you are: I don't live in any of the places where Iam researching. What a wonderful tool the Internet is!! In Spring of 2000, My husband and myself invited our daughter to go on a "family research trip" to Ohio, and West Virginia. She got a sitter, let her husband and 4 kids in Utah, brought the nursing baby, and we set out for that "once in a lifetime journey". It was beautiful in the hills of WV, and we really got a lot of eat pictures and memories. But to our surprise (read: horror) the day we went to Randolph County to visit a cemetery and find the tombstone of my great grandmother - it snowed 4 inches. All the stones were covered!!! We got stuck because we slipped off the paved road, and the baby and I stayed back in the car, while Erika and Jay tramped along the side of the road to the nearest gas station. We ended up having the car towed, (a new 2000 Mustang) and left Randolph County pretty discouraged. It is so nice to be able to sit in our comfy chairs, and type away - ah, the wonders of the computer-age! PS - Erika's husband said "Never again"...
