Looking for anything on Simeon Kuykendall or Coykendoll of Randolph Co, VA [now WV], that married Prudence Graham. Believe Prudence, widow of Simeon married James Skidmore as his second wife. I know that Simeon died in ca1846 and James Skidmore sometime shortly after 1850. Beyond this I have nothing. Would appreciate any/all help. Believe Levi Kykendall of Barbour Co, is a son or grandson, and father of my GGmother Nancy (Kuykendall) Teter. Thanks, Fritz

But I have no source for that information. I did not know who his wife was. I also only had info on one son, Jacob Stalnaker Sr. I do not have a Birth date for Jacob, but he came to the Tygart Valley in 1772. We know he had three sons, perhaps more and that his wife and son, Adam, were killed in 1755. Another son, George, was appointed Constable on waters of Holston and New Rivers in 1755, Withers History of Southern West Virginia (Page 109-110) writes of George Stalnaker as later of Boltetourt? County in 1770. Of this branch of the family nothing is known. The third son would be Jacob Stalnaker Sr. that married Elizabeth Truby. Jay

I did not know who his wife was.>> In the Tacy book it lists Samuel as having been born in 1705 in Westphalia, Germany. It would also be hard for Samuel to be born in 1746, when we have record of a grandson, Valentine Stalnaker, chr. 13 Feb 1757 in York County, PA son of Jacob and Maria Elizabeth Truby Stalnaker. This christening record may be found in the Pastorial Record of Jacob Lischy. Samuel's wife is listed in the Tacy book as Sarah Williams. Many of the Frederick County, Maryland families passed through and lived in what is now Adams and York Counties, Pennsylvania before coming to Maryland. Many of these Frederick County families then proceded west into what is now West Virginia. Some went on to Kentucky and other points west and south. On the route to West Virginia which took them some through Fort Bedford, PA you can still find remenants of these families today. Thanks! Don

Could very well be. My ancestors leave the South Branch river and head west into Randolph County and the Tygert Valley area around Beverly though. Not Kentucky. The Hornbecks that went on that exodus are what I am presently trying to find out. As it is, I have a strong belief that at the very least Elizabeth Hornbeck did not go with her son John Cutright Sr. However I am also pretty sure that Judlike "Judith" Hornbeck went with her Husband Colonel Jacob Westfall I. Can anyone confirm for me that Henry MACE, b. abt *maybe* in 1720 in England, m. Ann BOGARD. Henry d. in 1781 in Hampshire Co. VA. Ann d. abt 1800, Hardy Co. VA. As we come into the Holiday Season I find a strong pull away from the commercialization of the Christmas towards the more traditional. So in my thoughts I think of tradition and roots and what each generation has passed down to the next. This post is a call to all of you out there to come together and think about how you celebrate chrstmas with your families. And now the question: Is there any family tradition that you have brought down that comes from previous generations. Share it with us, bring back what has been lost. We might be surprised that there are simularities in our celebration. Whether it be Dutch, German, Norwegian, Scotch-Irish or English in Origin. Some of us may even have relics in our homes associated with Chistmas passed down from parent to child. While we are at it, if anyone has information on Historical events that are related to this holiday, or the history of how our ancestors celebrated Christmas, either here in the colonies or back in Europe. Also, think of Your Chrstmas meal. You may have recipes passed down. Or even just the make up of what goes on the table, the apperatives before, the traditional desert or drink afterwords. Let's have fun with this and share. Jay Steffens
Hi I need some help in Randolph co. I have a DeMoss who was born there in 1833. And can't seem to verify just who his father was. His name is Isaac DeMoss. born 1833 mother Elizabeth. I believe his father was Charles but can't seem to find him with Isaac on the census's. Can anyone help?????? Thanks Tracy
Jay, I was thrilled to see your response to Betty regarding the lineage for the Crites line. I am one of many grandchildren of James and Iva Gertrude (Sandridge) Crites. Ileana Marion (Crites ) Williams is my mother. James was born James David Crites Jr, his father being James David son of Abraham Crites. My grandfather gave up his middle name over a arguement with his father, supposedly about politics. My dad told me the the Crites brother and their father were staunch Republicans and that Grandpa wanted to vote Democrat which created quite a ruckus in the family. I had been frustrated by not being able to link Abram "Abraham" Crites to the two earlier Abrahams. I had a hunch there was a link but I was off by one generation. Our family records didn't list Jacob. I would be happy to share my information on the Crites decendants and ancestors in my family (Sandridge, Proudfoot, Pringle, Hall, Wentz) if you are interested and I would appreciate it if your would share any information on the CRITES ancestors. By the way, those interested in the Crites lineage might check out the picture and text regarding Audra where my grandparents James and Iva Crites spent much of their time. It can be found at : http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvrandol/sandridg.htm . Please send me Betty's email if you have it since the response on the Randolph list didn't include it. -- Don Williams, KD6UVT, with interests in: amateur radio, backpacking, motorcycling and mountaineering.
