I am trying to locate 3 graves that might be in Randolph County. 1. Myrta (Harman) Bell, daughter of Thomas and Susan (Wimer) Harman of Pendleton County. Myrta was married to George Harman "Harm" Bell. She died on August 27, 1898 at Spruce Run. 2. Julius Harman, son of Abraham and Caroline (McDonald) Harman. He died on July 14, 1903 in Davis. I think his parents would have buried him in Randolph or Pendleton County. 3. Jacob McDonald, son of Seymour and Mary Jane (Nelson) McDonald. I've been told that Jacob died about 1939 and is buried in Randolph County. I have not found these three people mentioned in any of the cemetery books. If you know where they are buried, I'd appreciate your help. Thank you, Jeanette in South Carolina ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Thanks for the offer... Do you have anything on WOLFORD? Could also be spelled WOOLFORD, WOHLFORD... You get the idea... Diane
I have recently obtained a copy of "The Bristol Registers of Servants Sent to Foreign Plantations; 1654-1686" compiled by Peter Wilson Coldham. If any of you are having difficulty tracking an early ancestor, think they might have been indentured, and you can't get to a library with this source, contact me and I'll be happy to look up names for you. There are about 10,000 names; most of these came from the West Country, the West Midlands, or Wales. Many of them went to the West Indies; most to early Virginia. Alix Von Bosen
Dear Friends: I hope some of you with access to the 1830-1850 census records and with other Randolph/Rockbridge County sources can help me. I have been looking high and low for WILLIAM SILAS ANDERSON'S roots - thinking that he came from Rockbridge County to Randolph between the 1820 and 1830 census. I have discovered the 1850 census of Randolph list's him as WILLIAM L. ANDERSON ( and this is my William as the family numbers attest - he is number 70 ) and another lead to Rockbridge has completely played out. Family Genealogy has it that William Silas or L(ewis?) Anderson was the son of Robert Baxter Anderson of Rockbridge. Well, there were two Robert B Anderson's of them in Rockbridge but the middle name is BLAINE and sure enough one of them (Jr) had a William who seemed to disappear from Rockbridge at the proper time but I cannot make the connection to my William in Randolph. I have also been told that WILLIAM is listed as a son of Robert B. Anderson in the 1820 Census of Rockbridge but I cannot find it there. And both Lewis and Silas are family names. William who was living in Mingo on Indian Run in Randolph in the 1850 census sold his farm to Adam See in 1857 and went to what is now Webster County and died there in 1857. Was that area of Northern Webster(Hacker Valley/Cleveland) that bordered Randolph in 1850 indeed still a part of Randolph and thus those folks in that area of Webster included in the 1850 census of Randolph? Or was it still Braxton or Nicholas? I hope that some kind sole out there has some info that can help me track this guy's daddy. Sincerely David Anderson

A note on the Christian and Christina Carr Cooper pedigree from a previous post (see below): The marriage record for Elmira McDonald (see individual vii, John Adam Cooper) in Pendleton Co. (d/o of Anthony and Harriet McDonald) married John Wymer Cooper (s/o Samuel and Elizabeth Cooper) on 22 Jun 1876 (Pendleton Co. Marriages). Samuel Cooper is a brother to Christian Cooper. John W. Cooper was born 16 Oct. 1853 and d. 31 Dec 1926 in Harman WV (Death register 4, p. 30, Randolph County). I have no marriage record for John Adam Cooper (vii in following pedigree, s/o Christian) mentioned in the pedigree but according to the Chapman Randolph County Cemetery book his birth date is 11 Jan 1869 and his death date is 31 Dec. 1903. Gettie Lee McDonald who married Asa Cooper (individual iii) is a sister to Elmira McDonald and it is a a common misconception that two McDonald sisters married two Cooper brothers. John Wymer Cooper and Asa were cousins, not brothers. Janet Cooper Lee's Summit, MO [email protected] Previous post Christina CARR (6.Jemima2, 1.John1) b. 1832, WV or VA, m. Christian COOPER. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said... "Too bad about the data for which you wrote Sank in a storm on an ill fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and the such Were proof that my work had become much to much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and of such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparent's wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas cheer; I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright. Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and I yanked up the sash. When what to my wondering eyes should appear? But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys, and old Santa Claus too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. The TV antenna was no match for their horns, And look at our roof with hoof-prints adorned. As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa - KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet, (I could wring his short neck!) Spotting my face, good old Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy; When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you", Santa grinned. As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement - the cover it read "Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Plead." "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug," He said as he gave me a a great Santa Hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folks who can't find a thing. Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle, To his team which then rose like the down of a thistle And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family History is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight!" --------------E5E63DAEE1F83B1F15E4585A-- --part0_913055981_boundary--
My maternal grandfather James Brake was born in Randolph County. He lived there when he was a young boy, until he entered the military at age 17. He later returned in 1979, and lived there until his death in 1993. As a child and until my grandma's death in 1996, I would go visit them in Elkins every chance that I had. Elkins is like a second home to me, I only go once a year now to put flowers on their graves in Huttonsville. I am very proud of my family from Randolph County, the only ones that I have gotten to know I was told by a family member that my Grandparents house was bought by a Rosencrance (relatives) where they are located in the family tree, I am not sure about. Is there anyone in Elkins or Randolph County that could find out who bought my grandparents house? I am willing to pay for any copies of the deed. I can give the exact street address, and my grandma's name. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I am looking for the keeper of Belle-Kelley Cemetery (Huttonsville) in which my grandparents are buried. Thank you in advance. Terri Lucas http://users.1st.net/mccaslin

Deanna - I know of a father and son named David Barry who have (or had) law offices in San Francisco. I don't know if the father is deceased, but I believe the son is alive, well, and practicing law. If you have difficulty locating him in San Francisco, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
