    1. [WVRALEIG-L] WILEY, Rufus E., b.1868, Summers Co., WV; d. 1937, Raleigh Co., WV
    2. FAMILY MYSTERY Main surnames in this text: WILEY, LILLY (others are listed at end of obit) Regarding obituary: WILEY, Rufus E., b. 14 Jan 1868, Summers Co., WV; d. 1937, Raleigh Co., WV. I found an old obituary that has me totally confused!!! The obituary was pasted into an old scrapbook once belonging to my late great-aunt, Bessie LILLY Logan. Unfortunately, Aunt Bessie neglected to write dates in the scrapbook, so all I have is the actual clipping, but nothing regarding dates or the name of the newspaper. TEXT: Rufus E. WILEY Dies At Home Beaver Man Succumbs To Paralysis And Complications Rufus E. WILEY, aged 69 years, of Beaver [my note: Raleigh Co., WV], died yesterday at the home of his son, B.F. WILEY with whom he had lived for a number of years. His death was attributed to paralysis and complications. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. V. H.JULIAN, of Fireco; son, B.F. WILEY, Beaver; three half brothers, Clyde LILLY, Coolridge; Ray LILLY, Coolridge; Dave LILLY, Mount Creek; and a half sister, Mrs. Sam STAFFORD, Mullens. He leaves also five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church at 11 a.m. today by the Rev. Eugene NICHOLS, of Sophia, with interment following in the Beaver cemetery. Pallbearers will be the following: Active, Jim BENNETT, Amos EPPERLY, Jim COCHRAN, Arthur GREEN, O.A. LILLY, T.E. COX. Honorary, P.O. MALONE, C.F. JACKSON, Bob NOEL, Clarence NOEL, Tom YUALL, F.P. Carper, J.P. LEWIS, J.M. GOOCH; J.B. HATCHER, D.M.LEARY, D.J.HARRINGTON, H.B. WADDELL, W.B. MADDY, F.E. CRAWFORD, V.E. KIRK, and Dr. M.C. BANKS. ***Why am I confused?*** I do not know who this man is, yet the half-brothers and half-sister mentioned in this obituary are the sons and daughter of my great-great-grandparents, Samuel "Devil Sam" LILLY and Emily F. COMMACK. i. Clyde LILLY, Coolridge: 1886-1967. ii. Ray LILLY, Coolridge: 1889-1964. iii. Dave LILLY, Mount Creek: 1882-1940. iv. Mrs. Sam STAFFORD (Myrtle LILLY), Mullens: 1891-1967. [by 1937, the other half-siblings were already deceased] Mr. Rufus E. WILEY was born in Summers Co., WV, in January 1868, and Emily (16) and Devil Sam (21) were married in Mercer Co., WV, in November 1868, so it is very possible that either of them could have been the parent of Rufus, but what is the Summers County connection? Can anyone help me out here? Might anyone know who Rufus WILEY was, his mother, his father? Who raised him? Who did Rufus marry? What do his son's initials stand for [B. F. Wiley]? Who is his daughter, Mrs. V.H. Julian? I would dearly love to hear from anyone who might have an idea as to who this gentleman was. Might anyone with access to birth records for Summers County (1868), or death records for Raleigh County (1937) help me out? By the way, this situation bothers me only to the extent that if Rufus *is* directly related to either Emily or Devil Sam, it means I've gotta add yet another line to my cherished LILLY connections <grin>. OFF TO WORK I GO! Many thanks in advance!!! Lainie Hendrix Alley34417@aol.com
