    3. Folks, I don't normally pass on virus warnings because so many of them are hoaxes but there is a legitimate one that I thought that I would bring to your attention. The Happy99.exe "worm" is making the rounds. In addition to the following message from Julie McGrew-Ayres (Fayette Co. CC), over the weekend I heard from a couple of people on this list that had been sent the attachment. Fortunately, they knew not to open it, but since it is obviously going around I just wanted to make sure everyone knew what Happy99 is and maybe save you a headache or two. Please read the following from Julie for more information: > This doesn't pertain to genealogy but I felt it important enough to share > with you. Since Saturday, I have received two e-mails containing the > Happy99.exe attachment (one of which was sent by a Fayette County WVGenWeb > querist). As most of you probably already know, this is a trojan-type > "worm": It gets into your files and sends itself to others to whom you send > e-mail. > > If you receive this attachment from folks you know and trust (and those you > don't) don't open it! If you've opened the Happy99.exe and watched the > pretty fireworks display, you're infected! > > As a reminder, you can't get a virus (or worm) by opening your e-mail--Only > by opening the attachment in which it is contained. > > For more information on Happy99.exe, see > http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/happy99.worm.html > Thanks for reading! ~Melissa -- Melissa Bailey Duggins Raleigh County, WV GenWeb County Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvraleig/ E-Mail: mduggins@lexcominc.net Please consider submitting one piece of data to the Raleigh County Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/wv/raleigh.htm
