Good morning all! I wanted to let you know of a few changes and invite you to stop by the Raleigh County GenWeb site. I'm Melissa Bailey Duggins and I am the new Coordinator. My family is primarily from Raleigh and Mercer Counties - Dad's family lived in Daniels and my mom's family is from Camp Creek. I still have family in the area and I visit as often as I can. I've lived in North Carolina most of my life, but spent summers as a kid with an aunt over in White Oak and at my grandparents' farm in Camp Creek. Some of the new things available at the site include: "Featured Family" - a new article each month about a different family. This month's family is the Fitzpatrick family, in honor of St. Patrick's Day :-). Submissions for new "Featured Families" are more than welcome! "The 1850 Maiden Names Project" - this is a work in progress, but the general idea is to give a maiden name, parents, marriage date and place for each married woman or widow in the 1850 Raleigh Census. Stop by and see if you can help fill in any blanks! There are a number of new "projects" and articles in the works, so please do check in from time to time. I would love to have input from you all about what you would like to see and any contributions that you care to make. If anyone is interested in doing lookups from books or CD's please contact me so that I can add you to the list. I am also currently looking for a Civil War history buff to put together some information about Raleigh Co. men in the Civil War - or War Between The States, depending on which side your ancestor was on :-). Contact me if you would be interested. This is your site, folks, and I really want to hear your ideas and suggestions. The next week will be an adjustment period and if you run across anything that isn't working the way it should or you have any questions or problems concerning the site, please let me know.
