Whipple is (was) about 5 miles south west of Oak Hill, and within a stones throw of Scarbro. It had a General Store and Company houses huddled around it. My granddad worked there in the 1920's; my mom remembers it well. There is a writeup about it and other coal camps in "Fayette County West Virginia", a great book available from the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce. Tom Warden
