I am not a person to write of worm or virus warnings, but in the last 12 hours I've received 6 emails from folks whose emails I did not know, but upon research, they are involved in genealogy on the computer and G sites online and all had attachments ending in .pif, even if each attachment had a different name. They are all variations of the SoBig worm ([email protected]) that I heard of on TV AFTER getting these emails. One referred to a screensaver, one a thank you for something or other, one about an order, another something about details. One file ended in .scr about a screensaver. This will take info (email addresses) from your system or addressbook, etc and send out this message to them all. Not the senders fault, but to avaid the worm, delete emails witout opening the attachment if it is a .pif, in particular. Check this at one of the Security websites. As I said, I checked and found that all the emails are folks involved in Genealogy, so this seemed the place to warn. Take a look at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected] to read more about this. As long as you don't open the attachment you will be safe.
