    1. [WVRALEIG] Wilsons in Civil War -- Update
    2. Recently Cousin George Stover sent a posting to the list requesting information on his Wilson family & their participation in the War Between the States. He was concerned with Robert T., Lorenzo & David who served out of Caswell County, NC. I promised to E-mail a source, who is an expert on NC troops in the war, for some information. The source has not, as of yet, came through. I, however, have some information that may help. The following are Civil War units that were made up of men from Caswell County: 5th NC Infantry, Company I 6th NC Infantry, Company H 13th NC Infantry, Company C 22nd NC Infantry, Company G 45th NC Infantry, Company I Another Raleigh County researcher, Palmer Wilson, told me about oral legend that says Robert T. Wilson was at Gettysburg & that Lorenzo Wilson was present when Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Court House. Further investigation & perusal of the orders of battle for both Gettysburg & Appomattox tells us that the following of the above mentioned units were at Gettysburg: 5th NC 6th NC 13th NC 22nd NC And that these units were at Appomattox: 13th NC 22nd NC I hope that the Wilson researchers find this inforamtion useful. I am not of that family, but sure as heck enjoyed the ride. As always, I look forward to discussing family matters. Sincerely, Mike Peters [email protected]
