Thursday, March 27, 1930 Robert Acord, 103, Civil War veteran, died of a heart attack at McGraws at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jim McGraws, last Sunday while sitting on the porch. Members of the family said that family records show that Mr. Acord was born January 6, 1827, near Bolt, Raleigh county. He was a pioneer of Raleigh and Wyoming counties, and had chased bears where Mullens now stands and killed one where Elmore is now located. He was of military age at the time of the Mexican War in 1845, but relatives said he was employed at an iron furnace in Ohio at that time. He was present at the first session of Raleigh county court when the county was formed in 1850. Relatives said his father, John Acord, was 104 at the time of his death. The body was taken to Bolt for interment Monday afternoon. .
