Mark Hardin being the son of Daniel II and Millicent. This isn't my line but I would like to make sure I have them correct. The information that I have on the Shumate family is from the "Smith-Riffe Collection of the New River Genealogy and History." A monumental work began in the mid 1930's by Aubrey O. Smith and Judge Winton A. Riffe and was a collection that dealt with 207 families who do or have resided in the counties bordering the New River in WV and western VA, and several others, including Wyoming and Boone Co., WV. Karen: Good to hear from you. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of "Smith-Rife." Their work is an invaluable tool. I see your list doesn't contain the Daniel Shumate that was Clerk of Raleigh County, husband to Narcissa Burgess & who was a civilian prisoner at Camp Chase during the Civil War.
