The following only relates to Raleigh Co. in that George O. Tabor lived there for about 2 years. However, he has many descendants who lived in or still live in Raleigh county. George O. Tabor enlisted July 15th 1861 at Princeton, Va (WV) in the Princeton Guards who were assigned to the 59th VA Inf. as Company - I (2nd). Most of the 59th, including almost all of the Princeton Guards, were captured at Roanoke Island on Feb. 6, 1862 (George O. was listed as "home sick"). Later, he served with the 17th VA Cav., Company E (this unit included 26 former Princeton Guard members). It is my understanding that the 17th VA Cav. was able to get through the lines at Appomattox and made it to Lynchburg where in April 1865 they disbanded and that George O. was with them at the time. His son James Thomas Tabor was born in OHIO on Dec. 20, 1864. The mystery is why was his wife Olive Worrell Tabor in Ohio before the war ended and where in Ohio. I know George O. lived in Ohio for 8 years following the end of the Civil War. Then he was in Kanawha Co., then in Raleigh Co. where he had some kind of a store for a few years before moving back to Mercer Co. While they were in Ohio, my great-grandmother Amanda Louemma Tabor Lyons was born.
