Nothing on Daniel Grover or Samuel O'Neal. Jessie O'Neal & William O'Neal -- Brothers from Carroll County, VA. William married Nancy, daughter of Ellison & Sarah Acord Christian, ^ settled on Maple Meadow. Jesse married Mary, daughter of Daniel Shumate II, & settled at Lester. In 1856 Jessie sold his farm to John W. Clay & moved to Missouri. His oldest son, Daniel, remained in Raleigh County. Daniel served in both armies, but was not a deserter. He first entered the Confederate service, was captured, taken to Camp Chase Prison & entered the Union Army in order to get released from prison. He was in the later army at the battle of Cloyd's Mountain, where he rendered kindly service to some of his old neighbors & friends who were seriously wounded. William's sons, James & William, Jr., were Confederate soldiers. James died in prison. John W. Gray -- Floyd County, VA. Lester 1856. Bought farm of 300 acres from Jessie O'Neal, for which he paid $3000. Jessie O'Neal is also listed as attending the Church at the Coal River Marshes. In 1850 Raleigh County, William O'Neal is living on Rock House Fork & Jessie O'Neal on Surveyor Fork. William O'Neal is also listed among those men who served in the Raleigh Rang ers, Company E, 36th Infantry Regiment. I hope that you find this information helpful.
