Surviving relatives are five sons and one daughter as follows: Charles, Milton, Wesley, Robert, and Henry Lafferty, and Mrs. Anna Bragg, all of Willis Branch. NOTE: Sons Henry and Robert were deceased. Daughters Mary Elizabeth and Ada were omitted. RITA, Bless your little pea pickin heart ! No one, including myself, seems to have known or, perhaps cared to share the birth county of Lucinda. I'll check there as soon as I can for her family. Also my ggrandmother's obit is priceless to me. I had been told she was buried at Boyd's Branch with her husband, Edward. Then I wonder why Aunt Lizzie and Aunt Ada were omitted from the obit. AND son, George. George was living at the time of her death. The microfilm numbers you quote ? Are they from Salt Lake City or Charlston ? I am supposing you might be down from Adaline? Martha Jane and Adaline were sisters. Thank you for all the rest, too. It will fill in some blanks. I truly cannot thank you enough. Do you happen to live in one of those counties ? Polly

    3. You're certainly welcome, Polly. The microfilm numbers are from some Family Tree Maker CDs that I have. Yes, George appears to be omitted as well. I show perhaps he died in CA in 1974. California Death Records Name: George Lafferty Date of Death: April 30, 1974 Place of Death: Yolo Date of Birth: May 25, 1883 Place of Birth: West Virginia I show a death date on Ada Susan Lafferty Dodson of December 23, 1967 but have not found a record to confirm. Here's Mary Elizabeth's obit - Raleigh Register, Beckley, W.Va. Wednesday Afternoon, October 21, 1959 Mrs. M. Painter Rites Thursday MOUNT HOPE (RNS) -- Last rites for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Painter will be conducted in the Assembly of God Church, Mount Hope, at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Dale Holmes, Mount Hope, and the Rev. Robert Doan, Bradley. Burial will be in the Pax Cemetery. Mrs. Painter, 69, Mount Hope, died in a Beckley hospital at 5:40 p.m. Monday after a long illness. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Mount Hope. Born at Willis Branch, Oct. 11, 1890, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lafferty. Survivors include two brothers, Charlie of willis Branch and George Lafferty of California; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Dotson and Mrs. Anna Bragg, both of Pax; four sons, the Rev. Tennis Painter of Burlington, Carlos of Bradley, and Robert and Jimmy Painter, both of Mount Hope; four daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Childers of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Wilma Markham of Long Branch, Mrs. Edith Stover of Kingston, and Mrs. Peggy Camillome of California, 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The body will remain at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope and will be taken to the church one hour prior to the funeral. I live in Florida. My connection to the Laverty/Lafferty line is through my great great grandparents Larkin and Elizabeth Hezeltine Massey Allen. They were cousins when they married - their mothers were Lafferty sisters. Larkin Allen was the son of John A. "Crop" and Elizabeth "Betsy" Lafferty Allen, Jr. Elizabeth Hezeltine Massey was the daughter of William C. and Martha P. "Mattie" Lafferty Massey, Sr. "Mattie" and "Betsy" Lafferty were daughters of William and Nancy Jamison Laverty/Lafferty.
