They were cousins when they married - their mothers were Lafferty sisters. Larkin Allen was the son of John A. "Crop" and Elizabeth "Betsy" Lafferty Allen, Jr. Elizabeth Hezeltine Massey was the daughter of William C. and Martha P. "Mattie" Lafferty Massey, Sr. "Mattie" and "Betsy" Lafferty were daughters of William and Nancy Jamison Laverty/Lafferty.
