The Charleston Daily Mail Charleston, West Virginia October 6, 1930 Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at McDonald for Burt Walters, a widely known resident of that section and a brother-in-law of Congressman Joe L. Smith. Mr. Walters, who was 63 years old, died at a Montgomery hospital Friday afternoon. He was a native of Kentucky. His widow is the eldest sister of Congressman Smith. The service were conducted by Rev. W. W. Pharr, of Oak Hill, and burial was in Sunset Memorial Park. Death was attributed to a heart condition. Rites will be conducted from the Mt. Hope Baptist Temple with the Rev. Clarence Figgatt officiating. Born near Glen Daniel, then known as the Marshes, in 1866, she was a resident of Mount Hope for 68 years. Her husband, Bert Walters, who died in 1930, was a Fayette County sheriff and magistrate during their years of residence there. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Nell Walters, a teacher at Fairmont; two sons, L. N. Walters, of Mount Hope, and O. J. Walters, of Wayesboro, Va.; two brothers, Joe L. Smith of Beckley, and John Smith, Buffalo, N.Y.; 11 gandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body will remain at the Lindamood Funeral Home until 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at which time it will be removed to the church.     3. Thanks, Rita! So the Sarah Jane that married Robert Aliff is indeed the daughter of Joseph Lewis Smith and Nancy Williams, by all indications.
