Transcribed by Rita O'Brien Charleston Daily Mail Charleston, West Virginia January 28, 1936 Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy J. Smith, 78 years old, a resident of Raleigh County for the past 50 years, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paul Payne, at Blue Jay, Saturday, were conducted Sunday by Rev. J. M. Hayes at the Beaver Community Church. Burial was in the Blue Jay cemetery. She is survived by eight children, 53 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren. The surviving children are Charles L. Smith of Wallowa, Ore.; Samuel D. Smith, of Red Star, Joseph W. Smith, of Glen Jean; Earnest C. Smith, of Shady Spring; Creed C. Smith, Mrs. James D. Elliott, Mrs. J. H. Hatcher and Mrs. Paul Payne, all of Beckley. Mrs. Harwood James, of Beckley, is a granddaughter. Two brothers and two sisters survive; John N. Hoye of Shady Spring; Miles C. Hoye, of Glen Ray; Mrs. Milo Phillips, of Shady Spring, Mrs. R. C. Meador of Virginia.
