Thank You Elizabeth Brook Cloud (Bunch) from what I understand was at least 1/2 Cherokee. How do you get the death records? Sherry
Go to this link for WV records: http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_select.aspx It is a work in progress, so not all counties are available nor all records for all counties are available at this time. I noted Elizabeth, her husband, and one of her children are buried in High Lawn Cemetery. Have you located Elizabeth's death or marriage records? Have you checked Mankin marriage and death records? I don't want to replicate your efforts. You might also want to search for Cloud families in the 1880 census. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp Since Elizabeth was born 1892, her parents would almost certainly have been born by 1880. There are a number of American Indians called Cloud, but all are in the upper midwest: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Dakota Territories, etc. They would not have been Cherokee, but Sioux, Cheyenne, Chippewa, and a wide variety of lesser known tribes. Cherokees were forced to leave North Carolina and Georgia in 1838-1839 and relocated to Oklahoma via what is known as "The Trail of Tears". Some eventually did come back and settled on land owned by a sympathetic white man (Col. William Thomas) in North Carolina. That said, however, all the Cloud households I looked at in the WV, VA, NC, KY area seem to be either white or negro.
