Bonnie- Is your copy of your cert complete? If so, there should be in the lower left hand corner some indication of the Funeral home OR where they were buried. There was a Shady Springs cemetery. I thought I recalled one near Flat Top. Depending on where the deceased lived, this can be significant. Hope this helps Mark Combs --- Bonnie <bekaycee@earthlink.net> wrote: > I know that noone has ever heard of a cemetery named > that but I must try. > > I have a death certificate for a lady that died in > 1943, in Beckley in Raleigh Co. > > I have someone who believes the funeral home is > Calfee's, and I have contacted them. I found a picture on the Raleigh County WVGenWeb site under Raleigh Newspaper Clippins called "Preacher Ike Bailey". It reads "Preacher Ike Bailey, a pioneer Baptist minister, was well known throughout Wyoming County during the pioneer days. This picture was made in 1900" I have a Isaac Bailey born 1835 (s/o Thomas Bailey and Priscilla Cooke) and died 1921 in Wyoming Co, WV. He married Jane A. Brooks born 1832. Does anyone know if this Isaac is the same as the one in the newspaper clipping? Thanks, Elizabeth
AMEN and thank you to you all for all you have done. I feel so proud that I have a grandson who is 9 years old today. From day one this little guy has know about the American Flag and the bald eagle. Then at age 1 1/2 he began to salute the flag with his grandpa....my West Virginia husband. Then at age 2 he was saying the Pledge of Allegiance. This has done nothing but progress to the point where we took him to Phila. and D.C. this summer for almost 2 weeks-----he wanted to see the Declaration!!!!! 8 years old and wanting this.....he knows that today is an important day and not just because he was born. GOD BLESS THE USA AND ALL THE VETS!!!! Hello Bobby, St. Matthew AME Church is located at 103 Mills Ave. in Beckley, WV. Phone number is 304 252-1002. The Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor, Inc. is located at 749 S. Fayette St, Beckley, WV. Phone number is 304 252-4115. Greenwood Cemetery is not listed in the phone book. However, the cemetery is still there. I just went to that particular cemetery this past summer. If you give me a list of names I will be more than happy to call Ritchie and Johnson and see if they can give me any additional information and I would be willing to go to Greenwood and see if I could find the persons for which you are looking. Bobbie: I would contact Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor. They may have additional information in their records that will answer your questions and provide even more information. Greentown is not on my 1997 West Virginia Atlas. Perhaps, it was an area of Beckley where Greenwood Memorial Park is located. Just a thought.
