You are correct. Nellie Gray was the "maid" to George and Ines. She had 5 children with George. Her oldest child, Hazel Arthur, is my husbands grandmother. Another interesting fact is that Nellie and her brother Robert Richmond ( May 1891) were also illegitimate. Her mother is Julia A Richmond (Sep 1868-??? 1920) and she never married and always lived at home with her parents who were Henry A Richmond (9 Aug 1845-5 Jun 1930) and Sabrina Richmond (Sep 1841-???). Their other children and aprox DOB's are Malinda - 1867, James A- May 1873, William L - Aug 1875, Della W - Aug 1878, Lura K - Jan 1881, & Sarah S - Nov 1885. Nellie died shortly after giving birth to a set of twin girls on Sep 16 1927. George had already divorced Ines and took the 3 oldest children and raised them by himself.- the infant twins were raised by another family member. The children/grandchildren of Nellie were always treated as equals to Ines's children as far as I have been told. Mr. Treadway had walked from his home to the store at Beckwith for some tobacco, and was picked up by a passing motorist on his way home. The car was loaded and he stood on the running board. As the car neared the top of the hill near the home of M. T. Wilson, his hat, blew off, and in attempting to catch it, lost his hold and fell to the pavement. He died about 30 minutes after the accident without regaining consciousness. Mr. Treadway was born on Lower Loop creek in 1845, and was a son of John Allen and Polly Bays Treadway, pioneer Fayette settlers. He spent the greater part of his life in Raleigh county, having lived at Prosperity for a number of years. He moved to the Beckwith community about three years ago and had since resided there. He was married in 1863? to Miss Aletha Stover of Raleigh county. To this union 14 children were born, eight of whom survive, fours sons, William and Charlie, of Pax; Henry of Skelton, and Aden of Beckley, and four daughters, Mrs. Ruhama Treadway of Beckwith; Mrs. Susie Settle, of Pax; Mrs. Dennis Blake, of Prosperity and Mrs. Claude Arthur of Oswald. Saturday Morning, April 4, 1936 MILAM FUNERAL IS SET THIS MORNING Calloway Woman Will Be Buried In Coal Creek Cemetery Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Milam, 51 years old, who died at her home at Calloway, Thursday morning at 7:30 o'clock, will be held at the residence this morning at eleven o'clock. Reverend Boyles will conduct the services and burial will follow in the Coal Creek cemetery on Coal River with the Collins Funeral Home of Thurmond in charge. Mrs. Milam, who died following a three months illness, is survived by her husband, Lewis Milam, and the following ten sons and daughters, all of Calloway: Ben, Blaine, Wort, John, Ray, Arlie, James, Nerva, Elsie, and Mrs. Cena Sanger. Brothers and sisters living are: Edward Stewart, of Lester; Mitchell Stewart, Charles Stewart, Grant Stewart, Pem Stewart, Andy Stewart and Bert Stewart, all of Wyoming county; Mrs. Lena Webb, of Sand Lick, and Parthenia Stewart, of Saxon.
