    1. [WVRALEIG-L] Early Families Of Raleigh County
    2. Melissa Duggins
    3. Hi all! Just wanted to let everyone on the list know about a project I'm working on. I am in the process of trying to untangle the early families of the county. Those of you who have visited my website know that I have a pretty good sized collection of records for Raleigh Co. What I am doing is cross-referencing everything I have and building a sourced database. It is far from complete, but you are all welcome to visit and see if there is an ancestor hiding in there! It is the section of my website called "Melissa's Root Cellar". If you don't find what you are looking for this time, check back - I expect to be at this awhile! Happy hunting, Melissa Bailey Duggins Melissa's Family Tree http://home.att.net/~mduggins/index.html

    3. Mischelle and All, Regarding your Elisha Kidd who married a Margaret and moved from Franklin Co VA: I have the information from the 1850 Montgomery Co VA census on this family, if you need it. I believe the Elisha Kidd who married Peggy Perry on 5 Feb 1829 in Tazewell Co VA is probably the same couple. I have a little information on the KIDD family and would be happy to exchange information. You ask about Millers Camp Branch at Old Eccles. Eccles is located in Raleigh Co. I believe it is on Route 3. If I'm wrong about this, perhaps someone can let me know what route leaves Beckley and goes over the mountain to Harper, Eccles, and beyond. Thank you. Nyla

    3. Hello Amber, Am I ever glad you asked that question. How may I be of service, let me count the ways........ First: There is a 30th Battalion VA Sharpshooters Regimental Book. I've picked it up for our WVMercer Confederate veterans we're trying to locate. Second: What exactly do you need on the "Vawters" unit. I have another H.E.Howard VA Regimental book which lists each VA unit and some basic facts too. Third: You might consider subscribing to the new RootsWeb mailing list. It's: WVWBTSVETS and has 70 plus subscribers now. There are Confederate &Union researchers online - all hunting and looking too. Fourth: Are you doing a school project or family research - genealogy. 3. A few other Raleigh Co. surnames I would be interested in, they are found in my Hood family tree branch, but I am not directly connected to: ALLEN, MASSEY, UNDERWOOD, COMBS, WEBB The Hood family has given me a lot of trouble, I can't seem to find too many of the descendants. I am researching Stephen Hood, I am descended from his first marriage through son, George W. Hood, Sr. (no problem there). The above names are found in connection to his second and third marriages. (This is where I need the help!) Hope to hear from some of you. Bev

    3. For those of you who are doing research in Raleigh and Fayette Co, there is a lady that lives there who transcribes county records and puts them into bookform. Most of you have probaly heard of her. - Pauline Haga. She is also listed on the Raleigh County WV site, and also at the following site: http://members.xoom.com/stpaula/haga.htm She is an excellent source for us. Her updated list of books is there, and her address, etc. This is not something I make money off of, but it's just that she has so much information. :) Gracie
