A generous gentleman (I haven't yet asked permission to list his name) has offered the following, which I think is immensely intersting and important. It is in regards to the son of Rufus WILEY, as I'd posted in my earlier transmission. The son's initials were B. F. WILEY. Other kind researchers had suggested Benj Franklin WILEY for the initials, but this gentleman seems to offer more on the subject. Additionally, he offers what might be Rufus WILEY's occupation; either that, or Beecher WILEY's friends and associates were fond of Rufus and attended his funeral because of that. Here we go: << Hi Lainie, I am not going to be of any help in your research but I can answer one of your questions. B. F. Wiley's first name was Beecher. When Rufus died I was a Junior at Shady Springs High School and went to school with one of Beecher's daughters. It's been too many years so I can't right off hand come up with her name but may think of it later although you probably don't need or want it. After I graduated from high school I went to work on the Railroad and worked with Beecher for a number of years. I also note that the Pallbearers for Rufus were Engineers, conductors firemen and brakemen on the RR for the most part. DR Banks was the company physician at West Raleigh Coal Co... Beecher was well known and well liked but I did not know Rufus. I found an old obituary that has me totally confused!!! The obituary was pasted into an old scrapbook once belonging to my late great-aunt, Bessie LILLY Logan. Unfortunately, Aunt Bessie neglected to write dates in the scrapbook, so all I have is the actual clipping, but nothing regarding dates or the name of the newspaper. TEXT: Rufus E. WILEY Dies At Home Beaver Man Succumbs To Paralysis And Complications Rufus E. WILEY, aged 69 years, of Beaver [my note: Raleigh Co., WV], died yesterday at the home of his son, B.F.
