Sherranlynn, Hi! I've tried three different times to write to you directly from the Raleigh County web page to the address listed at the bottom of the Parker ADKINS descendancy charts, but I keep getting a DAEMON-MAILER msg. that the email address is not valid. If you've changed your address, then the page needs to reflect that. If the address is correct, then something else is going on, or is missing.... PLEASE update your listed email address? Many thanks! Lainie Hendrix

This is a search for the parents and siblings of VICTORIA JARRELL. She was born 1845-49 in Raleigh County or Wyoming County, West Virginia (Virginia at the time). By 1870, she was living with Jacob William PETTRY in Raleigh County. Jacob was a Mormon and had a wife already, Jane Morris. Even though his church accepted her as his wife (#2), the state didn't. They had two children, Mary Jarrell and Samuel Edward Jarrell. They were given the last name Jarrell for obvious legal reasons. Samuel Edward was born abt 1870. He married Mary Etta Hunter and they had 12 children: Don Blaine, Dorothy, James, Denver, Minerva, Ruby, Amy, Garnet, Mary, Robert, Byrd, and Hobert. Victoria Jarrell's brother was said to be a doctor. Victoria finally married Jacob Pettry in 1908, presumably after wife #1 had died. In case it may help some, Jacob William Pettry was the son of Jacob Pettry, Sr. and Celia Gore Pettry. One of Jacob Wm.'s sisters, Martha Araminta "Mattie" Pettry marrried James Anderson Jarrell, son of Lemuel Jarrell and grandson of Daniel Jarrell and Mary Terry. Other Jarrell's from that area known to have married Mormons during the 1850-1900 time were Rosetta Jane Jarrell and Cynthia Frances Jarrell (daughters of John Poindexter Jarrell). They both moved with their families to Utah. Any assistance with this Victoria Jarrell would be greatly appreciated. Ed May oldgator@bellsouth.net
In response to inquiry from oldgator@bellsouth.net: I have looked for Victoria Jarrell with Jacob William Pettry in 1870 and have not found her. In fact I didn't find Victoria in my 1870 Raleigh Co WV Census transcript. Perhaps you can provide more information. I did, however, find Jacob Pettry with his first wife Jane in 1870. Victoria was the daughter of Peachy Jarrell who had at least 3 children: William James, Mary, and Victoria. I have not been able to find any real information on Mary. Victoria had at least 3 children, maybe four: Samuel E., Mary, Woodson, and another child whose name I do not know. William James was listed as a farmer and doctor in census records. Victoria and Jacob Pettry were married prior to the 1900 census. Can you please tell me the spouses of Rosetta Jane Jarrell and Cynthia Frances Jarrell? Do you know the names of John Poindexter Jarrell's spouse and parents? I did not know that any of the Jarrells were Mormons. Thank you for that information. If I can answer any other questions, let me know. Nyla CREED DePauk http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/3412

I have some information on John Tinsley Sarratt, born January 02, 1892 and married Nancy Combs on February 2, 1830. These are probably the same people as you have even though the marriage date differs slightly. I would be interested in sharing information with you. If you could tell me what information you need or send me the information that you have, then I would know how I could help you. My wife is a descendant of Elisha, then John Tinsley, then Joseph, then Rosa Lee who married Charles Wesley Cook. Rosa Lee and Charles are my wife's grandparents. Ted Lacy P. O. We really do need the 1890 Census, however, this was burned in 1921. At the time, the census schedules were located in the basement of the Commerce Building in Washington, D. C. Even though the fire was contained, it flooded the area. The damage was not assessed until the following day, and it was noted that the census records soaked in the water overnight outside the protected vault area. The schedules were dried out, re-copied. But it was impossible to restore them. So? They should still be intact, yes? In 1932 Congress authorized certain documents to be destroyed, which included the original 1890 schedules. Then, in 1934, the remaining schedules were destroyed by the Department of Commerce. Some of the mid-western census records are still available. For example, the 1890 Illinois schedules were later found, and again in 1953, when some fragmented schedules were discovered. Family History Centers have microfilmed these fragmented schedules which consist mostly of mid-western states, and then, not all counties, or enumeration districts are in tact. Jeannette H.
