Hello all! If you have been thinking about submitting some of your family's data to the Raleigh County Archives, this would be the time to do it! I am sponsoring a contest and here's how it works. The person who sends the most submissions in to the Raleigh Archives during the month of March will win one book of their choice from the list of Pauline Haga's books - http://millennium.fortunecity.com/rose/505/books.html. Jeannie Watts will be able to give us the total at the end of the month and the winner will be able to choose their book at that time. Not sure what to submit? The Archives will take any of the following: family Bible entries, cemetery records, various court documents, deeds and other land transactions, historical letters, marriage, birth, and death records, military records, slave information, wills, obituaries, family histories and biographies. All submissions need to be typed up as a .txt file or you can cut and paste a submission into the body of an e-mail message. If you have questions about how to do this, please ask Jeannie Watts or myself. You can send your submissions to Jeannie <madamx@trellis.net>, or to me (Melissa) <mduggins@lexcominc.net> and I will forward them to Jeannie. No submission is too small or unimportant. This is a great way to add to your collection of genealogical material as well as helping to build our online resources! Good luck and happy typing to you all! :-) Melissa Bailey Duggins -- "Raleigh County Roots" http://millennium.fortunecity.com/rose/505/index.html Please consider submitting one piece of data to the Raleigh County Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/wv/raleigh.htm

Lainie and all, I would also appreciate it if you would consider sharing that information with me if you get it! I wasn't going to announce this just yet, but I think I'll go ahead and do it. I'm working on a project - the 1850 Maiden Names Project. The idea behind this is to try to identify the maiden names of all of the married and widowed women in the 1850 Raleigh County Census. If additional information is found, such as a marriage date and place and her parents names, that is also added. The first two pages are up at my website (see address below) and I am working on the next page now. I have to stress that this is NOT complete and that it is still a working database which means there may be errors in what's already posted. I would be more than happy though if anyone sees an error to please point it out to me and if you can add to it, I would be thrilled to take your submission. I hope that eventually this will be as complete and accurate as possible, but to do that I really will need help from all of the Raleigh County researchers with family in the 1850 census! Thanks - look forward to hearing from y'all! On 10 Feb 1999 (in the wee hours), I posted a query to the Raleigh County list regarding my great-grandfather, John Sauner ATKINSON, married to Mary Martha "Molly" MCGARY. My question was whether or not anyone might know anything regarding the following family: Raleigh Co., 1850 Census, p. 7, Microfilm page 4A, 10 July 1850. 49 Daniel Adkinson 41 M Farmer 500 Va Sarah Adkinson 33 F Va Eliza Adkinson 10 F Va Ellen Adkinson 7 F Va Maria Adkinson 6 F Va Francis Adkinson twin 4 F Va John Adkinson twin 4 M Va Isaac Adkinson 2 M Va A kind person responded with the affirmative, stating that John was indeed the son of Daniel and Sarah ADKINSON. This person also made mention of a marriage between Mariah ADKINSON (ADKISSON) and Van Buren BOWYER. I had a system failure, and lost all mail for the period btwn. 05 Feb and 15 Feb...so I don't have the name of the person who wrote, nor any notation regarding that response. I would dearly love to hear from that individual again! Sorry for the mess! Computer has been in the shop for two weeks, and I'm using hubby's machine for now (eek!). Many thanks in advance! Hello Sandy and all! The article on the Clay murder and the other articles that I submitted are in the Raleigh County Archives - http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/wv/raleigh.htm I just finished retyping the "Early Raleigh Settlers" series and am sending the last page today so it may be a few days before Jeannie has a chance to get it added. Some of you may remember that I had this on my old site a long time ago, but it really needs to be in the Archives. For anyone new, this series is a listing complied by Judge Winton A. Riffe of the early settlers (1810 - 1860). Hope you find something helpful! My apologies to anyone on this list who is still waiting for a lookup response. I really wanted to finish that series and will be back on lookups tomorrow. ~Melissa SandraG627@aol.com wrote: > I looked on the Raleigh page, but I can't find the new info, clay murder and > newspaper article? > help > Sandy in Fla > > ==== WVRALEIG Mailing List ==== > http://www.oz.net/~cyndihow/sites.htm > Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet -- "Raleigh County Roots" http://millennium.fortunecity.com/rose/505/index.html Please consider submitting one piece of data to the Raleigh County Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/wv/raleigh.htm

Hi; I am the new co-ordinator for the page on WV Coal. I doubt if very many of us could research WV, and not find someone who wasn't a miner. I invite you all to check it out at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvcoal/ and let me know if there is anything you can add to it to help. I would like to have as much info as possible, not only to help genealogists, but also to give people a 'picture' of what our culture was and is today.. Anyway, that is what I am working for, and I would appreciate any help to accomplish that. Even is that help is helping to pass the word about the site.
