Hello Gracie, I am new to the list and I am just beginning to research my husband's family in Raleigh Co. I know very little and have a lot of blanks to fill in. I would be very appreciative of any help in this endeavor. This is all I know: Thomas Ward, son of Robert Ward came from Greenbrier Co. and settled on Ward Mountain in Raleigh Co. between Glen Morgan and Sullivan. His two sons were Robert and John and they were Confederate soldiers. My husband's father was James William Ward, 1887-1963, who was descended from this family and lived on Ward Mountain. He married Myrtle McVey, 1897-1985. I think James William Ward's father was named Gilbert, but this could have been a middle name. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated. Hi All Seems like quite a few of us from Raleigh County moved to Florida, but I sure do miss the mountains. I live on the West coast of Fl I sent my surnames before but have a question. Would anyone have any picture of Helen, Sophia or of Kopper Coal Company located in Helen? Especially back in the late forties? My dad was killed at Koppers Coal Co. at Helen, at that time we lived in Sophia, later moving to Beckley. Left our beautiful state abt 1953 moving to Ohio. My grandparents lived at Whitby at that time. After dad died we lives short times in East Gulf, Fireco, Crab Orchard etc. My Mother was born in Summers County, she was about 6 years of age when they moved to Raleigh County.
