Sandy: Do you have an Amelia Blankenship in your line?
Gracie: Are you related to Isaac Scott, who served in the Civil War and was known as Uncle Bud? He married Martha Melvina Carr. This is my great great grandfather. Dianna Green Denton

Hello.........My name is Susie Clark. Just as Rebecca Segura, I too work late and sometimes go several days without checking email. Just starting to get into this research area (mainly doing it for information for my Dad). Names I am researching are : Runion (various spellings), Church, Morris. We are originally from Wyoming County (Bud) but moved to Raleigh County 20 years ago. Would appreciate any information, stories, etc. Thanks...... ---------- > From: segura <segura@novia.net> > To: WVRALEIG-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: New owner > Date: Thursday, March 11, 1999 10:31 AM > > Hello all, > My name is Rebecca Lilly Segura, sorry I'm late with the introduction, I > work nights and sometimes don't get to read my email for several days. > I was soooo glad to see Gracie as our list owner, she is a wonderful and > dedicated lady. Hi, ya'll! Gracie, good to have you here!!! I'm Lainie Hendrix (Alice Elaine POTTS Hendrix), born in Beckley when sand was still rock. My maternal grandparents were Harry Beuran ATKINSON, Sr., and Lillian Pearl LILLY. My paternal lines were in early PA and OH. My Raleigh families are ATKINSON, and LILLY......and I have direct connections to MEADOR, WOOD, MEADOWS, SHUMATE, COMMACK, MCGARY, DEAN, BRAMMER, and more, in the counties that surround Raleigh and then over into early VA. Since I'm so connected to all of them, I've amassed a nifty bunch of names. I don't send out my gedcom anymore (it's too big!), but I don't mind sharing my information! I'm one of those scary MEADOWS-LILLY people who are so related to themselves that it isn't even funny. I'm a direct descendant of "Randall Bob" LILLY and of his younger brother, Washington "Kinney" LILLY, both sons of Edmond LILLY and Edith "Edy" MEADOR. I'm also a direct descendant of Anthony MEADOWS and Mary "Polly" SHUMATE. My favorite genealogical quote: "Oh what tangled webs we weave, when with our cousins we conceive." Bob ZINGO, 1997. I think Bob sums it up just about right, don't you??? Lainie Hendrix
Welcome Gracie! I am mainly searching for: ALLEN, mainly Caleb W., born 1831, and descendents BUCKLAND COX BRUMFIELD, especially Jesse M., born 1810, VA. LAMBERT, mainly Floyd, born 1850's, parents, siblings and descendents, married to Martha BURTON Brenda
Gracie and everyone. My moten's (morton) and plumley seem to be between Summers and Raleigh County depending on where they were renting at the time the child was born. Most of James Moten Children were born between Montgomery and Giles County Virginia, between 1856 and 1880. In 1880, James moved all of his two living children (and several of his children had died as well) to Summers County. WV. Out of these were John Moten (he spelled the family name Morton). and Samuel Edward Moten. Samuel was my grandfather on my father side. It was his children that were born between Raleigh and Summers County. He finally settled in Jumping Branch and raised nine sons. One (James Dorsey) died at not quite one year old in Hinton, West Virginia. The rest were Earl, Frank, Bill, Charlie (one one still living and living on the old homestead at Jumping Branch, West Virginia), my father Carl Thomas, Robert, Code, and George) John Morton, moved to the Raleigh County Area and married India Frazier and they had six daughter. There children are scatter thru Raleigh and Summers County. One grandchild I know married and came to Florida. ( I don't have any of the information, going from Memory) James had a son and daughter that either died or married and stayed in Virginia which James brought the rest of his kids to Summers County, WEST VIRGINIA. The were Charles T. (possibles Thomas) Morton (Moten) and Angelina Morton (Moten). They would had been old enough to stay behind. The other children were: Lucy W., James, Elizabeth, Eliza, Cora, and some other and I can't think of them right now. James Morton, father of Samuel, was in the Civil war for 7 to 9 months depending on record. In the 1890 Special Census he was apparently dead, for Lucy was listed as a Widow, who was applying for a Pension and was denied. According to my mother James didn't like Summer County and went back to Virginia. I do not know where and when he died. The 1890 Special Census stated that Lucy had a P.O. Box at Camp Creek, West Virginia. She is not listed in the 1900 Census. She was either dead (don't know where or when) or living with one of her daughter, for she was not with her sons, checked that. Samuel married Sarah Elizabeth Roxie Jane Plumley, who went by Roxie or Roxie Jane. Her father was George Washington Plumley. I only know of Roxie. Does any one know that Plumley family, because George and his brother were born in Raleigh county - There father was also name George Washington Plumley. Any help in this will be appreciated. As well as any corrections as well. Sorry I could give you better information, but I don't have my information at work. Hey Gracie, Long time since we talked. I was born in Glen White way back. I lived short times in Crab Orchard and Midway. Most of my young life and teen years were in Beckley. I still attend reunions for Woodrow Wilson and Sophia High. I know most of the names people are researching from the people I grew up with and friends of my families. My ties are in Fayette and Wyoming County. Is there any other list you are planning to do? I know about those long cold winters in Kansas..Norma Straughan Russie Gracie Stover wrote: > Hi; > My name is Gracie Stover, and I am the new list owner for Raleigh > Co.....
