Marcia & Amber & All, I for one love the personal messages even when I don't know the family. It seems to bring us together, especially those of us that are a long ways from our homes of origin in Raleigh County. Maybe next time I'll be saying, "That's my family, too." Everyone, Please stop by and visit my homepage when you have some free time. Be sure to sign my guestbook so I know you were there. Group, Sorry I sent a personal message to all by mistake. Marcia Green Hilton
Gordon, Persingers are my first cousins. Know most of the others you named too. We lived above the tipple in Hazy. For a time we lived in the house on the hill that Ebersoles lived in. My Uncle Duffy Green lived just below us (on flat ground :)!!) close to the railroad tracks. We moved to Edwight then and lived 2nd house from the end of the road before you crossed the bridge to "Shoemakers Branch" which I have since heard called Shumates Brance :) Did you know where Granny Wells lived in Hazy? Well, we lived further up the holler than that. Do you remember the "Coffee Pot" across the river? Lively place wasn't it! Good to talk to you about "Home". Keep in touch!! Marcia Green Hilton
Robert, I have info to share on Columbus. E-mail me at GIHilton@prodigy.net Marcia Green Hilton
Gracie, I was delighted to see you have taken over this list. For the benefit of re-introducing myself I will tell you that I am Ethel Stone Adams. I live in Kentucky and am working on several branches of my tree who have WV roots. Gracie and I cannot get my Stovers into her Stovers but feel sure there must be a relationship somewhere! I know practically nothing of my Stover family except my MARTHA JANE STOVER married Hugh Ferrell. Martha was born ca 1839 in Greenbrier Co., VA WV and she and Hugh were married 01 Oct. 1852. Hugh was born in 1824 in Monroe Co., VA WV. Martha died about 1904. My parents always said her father was Dick Stover but information recently tells me his name was probably William Stover married to a Mary P. The children of Martha and Hugh Ferrell were: 1) Mary Elizabeth Ferrell, b. 21 May 1853 M: James Coleman 2) Andrew Jackson Ferrell, b. 1855, M: Unknown 3) Ruth Ferrell, b. 1857, Boone Co., WV 4) Eli J. Ferrell, b. 1859+ married Emma Z___. I believe they lived in Dunbar, Kanawha Co. If anyone has any information on any of these people, I will be very grateful, and will of course share anything which I have. Blessings, Ethel Adams

Dear Jackie, If I remember correctly there is a book available with the Coal Mine Deaths in West Virginia. I am sorry that I don't remember the exact title but I did see the book in the FHL in downtown Los Angeles. Maybe someone on the list has a copy and can do a lookup or you can obtain a copy from your local FHL. Sincerely, Sandy Spradling
Would anyone have access to early obits in Raleigh County? I have been searching for a death date of one of my Uncles, he was killed in the Helen Mines in the early 30s, Marvin (Babe) SMITH. Thats all the info I have, My late Mother told me she attended his funeral a short time before her and dad married which was in Oct 1932. Thanks Jackie
