A special census was taken for Union Veterans and their widows in 1890. Some of the Special Schedule census survived a fire in Washington, DC, in 1921, when most of the 1890 census was destroyed. I copied the portion of the 1890 Special Schedule for Raleigh County many years ago at the National Archives, Washington, DC. I recently scanned the copies and have added them to the Raleigh County Biographies site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvrcbiog/ Enjoy. Nyla

Hi Polly: Why do I always get the hard questions? I'll answer the first question since it seems the easiest. As to the second question, all I can say is, "Something doesn't sound quite right." I checked my records, and I don't show a death date for William Fisher. Maybe someone else knows when William Fisher died. Hi Nyla and Fellow Listers, I believe the last time I was on this subjet was March, last. I lost the gist of it all. I have good excuses why, but we won't go into all that. Several of us were discussing Robinson/Robertson and Mary Jane Stover Williams and their descendents. Two questions, please ? Was it ever decided how many and who all were they, Robinson and Mary's children AND if William Fisher died about 1850, how did he report his son, Isaac's death in 1881 ? Just asking now. Don't anybody get mad at me. Polly
I"m hoping to find someone with a cemetery index to Raleigh Co. I'm trying to find when Elijah Blair died, and where buried. I believe he died between 1900-1910. He is on the Raleigh 1900 Census, but can't find him anywhere in 1910. Even though I have a death date for his wife, I dont' where she lived, or died, but first guess is Raleigh Co., as family seemed to be there as late as 1920. Anyone help?? Here's the family....... My mother in law is Joyce Athey. Maiden name is Farley. Her parents are Frank Farley born 10/1905 & Edna Phillips born 4/1914. The only picture she has of her mother-Edna Phillips, is one of her in the casket when she was burried. She would love to have a picture of her mother. If any one could help me with this I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much! Melissa Athey

Why am I not going through on the Kincaid List. [email protected]
I forgot to say that the reason for the interest is that my mom just sent me all of my report cards from Edwight Elementary and it has all of my teachers listed and I started remembering things about it and would like to have a picture to put with the report cards. I am 55 years old, can you believe that my mom has saved these for all these years??? Thanks, Marcia Green Hilton
Hi All, I would like to know if anyone has pictures of Edwight Elementary School? I attended there in the 1950's for 5 years and would love to see pictures of it. Did anyone else go there? Thanks, Marcia Green Hilton

An excellent book researching the TREDWAY (TREADWAY) family in America is being auctioned off on eBay in two days. Check it out if you think you might be interested. Sue Thompson --------------------------------------------------------------------- History of the Tredway Family by William T. Tredway. Published in 1930, First Edition. This is a hardback book, with 423 pages, including lots of pictures. The author states "This genealogy is the first one of the Tredway family printed in 500 years." Nathaniel Tredway (sometimes spelled Treadway) emigrated from England about 1635. Family traditions state that he came from the County of Rutlandshire, England and that this County was the original home of the New England Tredway family. Nathaniel Tredway is regarded as the connecting link between the English and American branches. Click here: eBay item 3535457047 (Ends Jul-13-03 19:15:36 PDT) - Tredway Family in America & UK 1930 423pp

To add to my post below, could someone please check the book on the Webbs also written by Mr. Turner for information on the Peters/Webb Marriage? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------- "Raleigh County West Virginia Marriages 1850 -1898," by Ronald Ray Turner lists the following nuptial: PETERS, Jordan Nickols 19 Boone County to Macy Webb 18 Boone County, 29 Apr. 1892 A copy of the actual marriage record does not include Jordan's middle name, but does list his middle initial as "N." This Jordan was named for my ggg grandfather Jordan N. Peters, who was recorded in the initial Raleigh County Census. I have seen grandpa Jordan's middle name listed as Nichols, Nickols & Nicholas. Am wondering where Ronald Turner got his information. Can someone with quick access to Haga tell me what she has on this marriage? Thank you in advance for any information. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mike Peters [email protected]
