Ed Elam I just called Tamarack in Beckley, they are out of the Books right now but they are expecting a order in the first of next week, their phone number is 1-888-262-7225 (ext 138) for books. And this is the History Of Raleigh County, by Jim Woods. I made sure of that. They will hold you a book for pickup or mail it if you have a credit card when they come in. The price is $34.95 maybe more if shipped, but I will pick mine up so I did not ask the shipping fee. Margureitte

    1. Re: [WVRALEIG] Raleigh County Web Site
    2. Hello: As you can tell, this group enjoys Raleigh Co researching; and we love to help. Yesterday, someone asked me a question about a family he was researching, and he also mentioned a name that I immediately recognized since he had married a cousin of my mother's. That way we both learned something new, although we didn't resolve the initial question he had asked. For new comers, don't wait for the answer to magically appear. Ask specific questions and provide as much information as you can. I have a challenge for the new comers--those of you who just read the messages waiting for your surname to show up, but you have never sent a query to the group yet. Here's your challenge. Send an inquiry and ask a question or tells us what you know about a family and ask if anyone can shed additional light on the family. By discussing these families together as a group, we all learn. We never know who will have the information that can push our line back another generation. Nyla You Raleigh Co. researchers have been a group of busy folks the past couple of days. Although I have not seen any info to help me in my Aliff/Halstead research I want to let you know that I appreciate the time and effert to do the look-ups and provide the info to other researcher. Folks like you make our 'diggin' a bit easier. Hats off to all of you.

    2. Margureitte: That is a good book to have, too. If you have an ancestor killed in a mining accident in Raleigh County, chances are he is listed in the book. Nyla ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ No, I am Wrong, and red faced, the Books they have is the Jim Woods Raleigh County Mine Deaths 1891-2000, they do NOT have the Raleigh Co History Book. The lady I talked with did not make that clear, as I ask if they had the Raleigh Co History Book by Jim Woods and she assumed I was talking about the book above. Sorry

    2. Anita: You are right. I think we are in agreement that the information for Sara Jane Smith's parents in the marriage record is wrong. This is another example of "someone" adding information at a later point to the official records that has proven to be wrong. My own great-grandfather's marriage record was erroneously updated by "someone." Thank you for the information from Alfred Smith's will. That's new information for me.
