Thank you for the info. :) I have two Austin Wristons, I don't know which one was on Loup Creek. one Austin was born 1837, s/o Isaac Wriston and Elizabeth Scarboro. This one was Henry's brother. and the other born in 1860, s/o John Wriston and Malinda Scarboro. I don't have anything more on him. He would have been a cousin(?) of Henry. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 27, 2004 12:59 PM Subject: Re: [WVRALEIG] Obit of Susan Wriston > Hi, Nyla and Gracie (and other Wriston researchers): > > Here are the listings from the Fayette Co., WV death records 1866-1899 as > transcribed by Larry Shuck. > > I don't know what to make of the first 2 listings. > > C. Hi, Nyla and Gracie (and other Wriston researchers): Here are the listings from the Fayette Co., WV death records 1866-1899 as transcribed by Larry Shuck. I don't know what to make of the first 2 listings. C. T. Wriston, February 8 1885, 4 months, born Mossy, parents H. and S. A. Wriston, reported by H. Wriston, father Charles T. Wriston, February 8 1886, 8 months, born Paint Creek, parents H. and S. Wriston, reported by Susan Wriston, mother Morris S. Wriston, March 8 1883, 4 years, born Raleigh County, parents Henry and Susan S. Wriston, reported by Henry Wriston, father W. S. Wriston, April 9 1880, 12 years, born Raleigh County, parents H. & S. Wriston, reported by H. Wriston, father Does anyone know what the relationship may have been between Henry Wriston and the Austin Wriston who lived down on Loup Creek (Falls of Kanawha district) of Fayette County? As many of you know, the Loup Creek area is the birth place of many generations of my family, as well as myself. There was a good deal of movement between Loup Creek and Kingston in the late 19th/early 20th century, although the road between the 2 is little travelled now. Everyone: I have a transcript of the will of Capt William Sewell Dunbar, if anyone is interested. His will was dated 30 Dec 1897 and probated 28 Apr 1898. Unfortunately, I failed to note who transcribed the will. If the person who transcribed the will is on the list, I would like to give them recognition for their work. The Charleston Daily Mail Charleston, West Virginia October 8, 1930 CIVIL WAR HEROINE DEAD at AGE of 91 Mrs. Wriston, Who Rode Over Lines, to be Buried in Family Cemetery Funeral services for Mrs. Susan A. Wriston, 91 years old, who died at the home of a daughter of Kingston Monday night, were to be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Lick Fork Methodist church. Rev. T. M. W. Morton and Rev. Mr. Adkinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Wriston family cemetery. Mrs. Wriston, as a young woman, saw services as a dispatch bearer for her father, Captain William Dunbar, during the Civil war. Captain Dunbar's company was encamped for some time in what is now West Virginia. Frequently, Mrs. Wriston's assignments forced her to ride all night through mountainous country. "All of my brothers had enlisted in my father's company and I wanted to serve with him, too," she has said in explaining her service. Mrs. Wriston was the widow of Henry Wriston. She is survived by two daughters; Mrs. W. G. Thompson, at whose home she died, and Mrs. Alice E. Good, of Columbia boulevard, and three sons; W. I. Wriston, of Ansted, and J. R. Wriston and M. G. Wriston, of Kingston. Three sisters, two brothers, 28 grandchildren and 30-great-grandchildren, also survive.
Nyla, I had a printout of one of your archived messages dated 20 May 2003, because it had a Woolwine in the lineage. I have found some additional information to your Thomas Jefferson Woolwine, married to Nora Lelia Lively. I know this is incidental to your line, but appreciate your information and thought you might like some more. 1900 Census, Fayetteville, Fayette County, ED #12, image 45 of 97 HH 386/390 Woolwine, James born Jan (blank) age 34 married 14 years Eliza J born Jul 1865 age 34 age 34 married 14 years Luddie W born Feb 1887 age 13 Thomas J born Nov 1889 age 10 Rebecca L born Oct 1893 age 6 Howard C born Mar 1896 age 4 Lacy G born Oct 1898 age 1 West Virginia Marriage Records 1863-1900 list James L Woolwine and Eliza J Davis, 11 Nov 1885, Fayette County Fayette County Births lists Thomas J born 11/11/1890, as opposed to 1889 on Census. I believe James Levi is in the 1880 Census as son of Ben J and Elizabeth A Woolwine (1880 Census Fayetteville, district 27, image 34, HH 310, 7 children). He had a sister Rebecca J whom I believe married a Charles Williams on 14 Aug 1885 in Fayette County. Also a brother, Andrew J whom I suspect is Andrew Jackson Woolwine who married Eliza Tyree 30 Apr 1899. Another brother John H I have found no more information on, but would like to. He could be the one I am looking for. I have found Ben and Elizabeth in the 1900 Census with two more children born in 1882 and 1885. Still looking for our William Birt Woolwine's parents. His Raleigh County marriage record to Macie Marie Aliff (16 Dec 1914) lists Monroe as his birth county. Checked the 1900 and 1910 Censuses for all of Monroe with no definitive information; many pages had unreadable parts. Birt's tombstone lists his birth as 3 Apr 1890. The typing of all of this gives me some perspective, as well as a record better than my notes! Hope this information helps somebody, and if anybody has any more information I would certainly appreciate it. Sincerely, Anita Hill
