Production is under way on "Reflections of Raleigh County," the pictorial history book featuring more than 250 pictures of men, women, families and historical places in Raleigh County. Just a short time left to order Raleigh pictorial history book. I talked with Nancy Stewart at the newspaper office this morning and she has now received orders for 921 books. The first set of proofs has been corrected and returned and the second set will soon be corrected and ready to return. Delivery of the book should be between Sept. 1 and 15. At this time, there are only 12 reservations left for the 50 leather-bound, hand-numbered limited edition books. Those wishing to order copies of the standard edition have a very short time left in which to take advantage of the discount price. After publication, the price will increase. Anyone wishing to buy or reserve a book at the pre-published price should do so as soon as possible. A $10 down payment on the standard version or $35 on the limited edition, will confirm your reservation of the book for the pre-published price. Publisher Frank Wood said a limited amount of extra copies will be ordered by The Register-Herald and if not already reserved, the book will be sold at the increased price. 3. Our Stover DNA group at: http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/s/stover/index.html is now up to 4 members, and we sure need more. :) One Stover line we have was in Ohio, and the other three members are descendants from Jacob Stover and Sallie McGhee, who md in Franklin Co, VA and moved to Raleigh County, West Virginia.. What we have is 4 completely different Stover lines, because none of us have yet made a match with each other. Check out the results page, and then the Patriarch page on the site that shows the male pedigree charts that are associated with each result. Each of the results line has a different colored background because they are 4 seperate groups. This DNA group is open to all Stovers. The more who participate, the more chance we all have of sorting out all these confusing Stovers.

    3. According to my records, my great grandfather William Patterson Aliff, Jr. was born February 4, 1870 in Rock Creek, Raleigh County, WV. He died September 6, 1958 at his home at Alderson, Summers County, WV. He was buried September 9, 1958 in the Clayton Baptist Church Cemetery at Clayton, Summers County, WV. He was a son of William Patterson and Sirelda Jane Reynolds Aliff, Sr. According to his mother's death record, she was a daughter of John Reynolds. According to the death records of William Patterson Aliff, Jr. and his brother Franklin Oite "Frank" Aliff, their mother was a Reynolds - not a Morgan. William Patterson Aliff, Jr.'s first marriage was to Mahala "Artie" Beckelhimer d/o Henderson Jyles and Sarah Ellen Smith Beckelhimer on January 7, 1896. Marriage Index: West Virginia, 1863-1900 Aliff, William Spouse : Beckleheimer, Artie Marriage Date : Jan 7, 1896 County : Raleigh Gender : Male Source : County Court Records Microfilm Number : 6117046-6117048 Artie died November 16, 1896 Raleigh County Deaths Mahala A. Aliff, born Sept 30, 1874, died Nov 16, 1896. Wife of W. P. Aliff. His second marriage was to Dora Alsie Clay d/o Leftrich and Paulina Daniel Clay. Marriage Index: West Virginia, 1863-1900 Clay, Dora Alsie Spouse : Aliff, William P. Marriage Date : Aug 18, 1898 County : Raleigh Gender : Female Source : County Court Records Microfilm Number : 6117046-6117048 Dora was born March 19, 1883 and died July 24, 1904. Tombstone inscription: DORA A. Wife of W. P. ALIFF Born March 19, 1883 July 14, 1904 Husband and children I must leave you leave, yes leave you all alone, but my blessed Savior calls me Calls me to a heavenly home His third and final marriage was to Lula Pearl Parker d/o Peter and Martha Jane Meadows Parker. Lula was born March 21, 1891 in Raleigh County WV and died January 13, 1991 in the Raleigh General Hospital at Beckley, Raleigh County, WV. She was buried next to William in the Clayton Baptist Church Cemetery, Clayton, Summers County, West Virginia on January 16, 1991. An interesting tid bit - William Patterson Aliff, Jr. had a sister Sirelda J. Aliff who married the Rev. Wyatt Albert Toler on April 13, 1888 in Wyoming County, WV. Rev Wyatt Albert and Sirelda Aliff Toler had a son named James H. "Jack" Toler. Jack married his first cousin, Lessie G. 3. Thanks for catching my typo Anita - you have a good eye. It should read: Wilson “Wils” Williams, b. Sept., 1828, d. Sept. 6, 1916, married on May 23, 1852 (1) Amy Caroline Gipson, b. 1830 in NC, d. Feb. 20, 1856 – age 26 cause unknown, reported by Wilson. (2) Olivia Stover b. ;1840 d. ?. Olivia was the d/o Jacob Stover, Jr. and Olive Dixon. What do you have on the children of Lonesome Dave? Karen
