He is indexed at Ancestry.com as "Julian", but the first letter is definitely an "L", when compared with others in this census. Reference: Census Place: District 45, Preston, Virginia; Roll: M432_969; Page: 458; Image: 393. He is listed as 4 years of age. I did not find him in the 1860 census of Preston County, Virginia, nor the 1870 census of Preston County, West Virginia. Other "Sliger" names in this 1850 census of Preston County, Virginia are Henry (born ca 1783) , John (b. ca 1831) , Mary (b ca 1785) , Samuel (b ca 1833) and Sarah (b. ca 1829). Wilhelm Family: In the 1860 census of Preston County, Virginia (District 3, Preston, Virginia; Roll: M653_1372; Page: 88; Image: 89l, post office of Tannery), in the Michael and Mary A. Wilhelm family is Mary (middle initial unclear), age 5, with siblings Elizabeth (23), Latamon (sp?) (21), and George 11). In the 1870 Census of Preston County, West Virginia (Portland, Preston, West Virginia; Roll: M593_1697; Page: 159; Image: 579, post office Rowlesburg) in this same Michael and Mary Wilhelm family are: Michael (age unclear), Mary A (age 55), Elizabeth (34), Georg (31), and Mary E (16). Neither does his obit in The Preston News, the only obit I currently have available for him, as follows: The Preston News. KINGWOOD, W. VA., FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1914. VOL. VI. NO. 38. Page 1, Column 4 Lucian Sliger. Lucian Sliger, one of Albrigts [sic] oldest citizens passed away at his home in that village on Monday morning of this week. He was born near Brandonville this county in the year 1845 making him at the time of his death 69 years of age. He was married twice, having a family of nine children most of which are living. He was a soldier in the civil war having served three years and a half in Company C, 3rd West Va. Infantry. Funeral services were held from his home on Thesday [sic] afternoon from his residence in Albrights conduced by Rev. A. D. Craig, of the Methodist Church in Kingwood, interment in the family plot close to his old home. Hi, Carole, Oren Morton writes in his History of Preston that a Henry Sliger settled near Clifton Mills about 1820. Sounds like a good candidate for an ancestor. Then in another section of Morton's book he has Henry Sligar marrying Mary Dennis, and on another page, there is a Mary Dennis m. Henry Sliger; she is a dau. of Christopher Dennis. Lucian b. May 1845 is in the 1900 Census of Terra Alta, Portland Dist. Preston in household #57-59, ED 106. Martha A. wife b. Sep 1846 m. 25y 10ch/8 living both Lucian and Martha were born in Maryland as were their parents, according to this Census; they have been married 25 years. Children with them: Troy P. b. Sep 1878; Delpha F. (male) b Apr 1880; Alvernia R.M. (dau.) b. Oct 1882; Oakey V. b. May 1884; Iva M. b. Jun 1885; Benjamin b. Mar 1887. All of the children were born in Maryland! Thomas Gibson settled on the Cheat Hills. Joseph Metheny settled on Cheat Hills about 1812. Thomas Liston came from Maryland and settled on Cheat Hills. Roy Lockhart
