There was also a John Cox/Cock in neighboring Fayette, PA. A John Cock was on the first tax list for Union twp. in 1785 and 1788. And, a John Cox was in Georges twp in 1787. Could be the same person. The spelling of names on the early tax lists can vary tremendously. There was also a John Cock in Luzerne twp 1787-1799. And a John Cox in Redstone, 1799. There was a McCray/McCrea family in Fayette during this same period, and a Groom/Grooms family in neighboring Greene. There were also McCreas in Monongalia. A Philip Cox signed an Appearance Bond for Alexander White 7 Sep 1799 in Monongalia. Also in Monongalia Co. court records there is a bit about a District Court held in Brooke County regarding a land dispute in 1800 but it references a patent given to Friend Cox for 400 acres on the Ohio River. Then later mentions that a John Cox was Hier at law of Friend Cox. Apparently John Cox, Jonathan Cox and Joseph Cox deeded that land to Charles Prather 6 Mar 1788. That seems to be about all I can find. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
