Morten and S.T. Wiley in their books "History of Preston County West Virginia" described a John S.Roberts who in 1805 bought 3 lots[1.15 acres]in Kingwood,Preston Co,VA[WV]from Hugh Morgan.On which he had built a building for a store.And in 1809 200 acres just out side town.He also was appointed a trustee of Kingwood and a Lt. Colonel in the 104th.regiment militia.The city bought out Roberts in 1818 so they could make it into a courthouse because of Kingwood becoming the seat of Preston Co.After that Roberts seems to disappear.Does anyone out there know where he went or what happened to him?
