Many names found in West Virginia (VA) were also found in the bordering state of Maryland. Sometimes the deeds tell real stories. I just found a deed that showed the selling of the land for my 4th g, grandfather, Nicholas Paugh, after his death. It names his widow, Sarah and several of his children and his son-in-law(my g, g, grandfather, John Friend). It seems that by the time Nicholas died (still owning Military Lots) that his 13 children and in-laws could not decide how to divide the land so it was all settled in a Court of Equity (land was sold by a Trustee). Amazing too was that the land was purchased by a man (Brant) that ties in with yet another Friend line (not my direct line). Reading the deed is like reading a little story about those on my family tree. I hope you, and others, find lots of good information in the deeds.
