    3. I have been told that there two Snider families settled in Preston. I have wondered about their relationship. Nonetheless, this is the info I have. I was given this info by someone so don't know anything about accuracy. I don't understand the stepchildren stuff. Were these the children of Sarah Browning by a former marriage? Descendants of Henry Snider Generation No. 1 1. Henry1 Snider was born in Bremen (Hanover), Germany, and died March 26, 1805 in Newburg, Preston, VA. He married Sarah Anna Browning Abt. 1766. Children of Henry Snider and Sarah Browning are: Asena "Cena"2 Snider, born in Fauquier County, VA; Stepchild. She married Job McGill in Fauquier County, VA. Caleb Snider, Stepchild. Elizabeth Snider, Stepchild. Harmon Snider, Stepchild. Lucy Snider, Stepchild. She married William DeMoss January 16, 1801 in Monongalia County, VA. Sarah Snider, Stepchild. She married Elias Mathews October 24, 1810 in Fauquier County, VA. Mary "Polly" Browning Snider, born 1767 in Culpepper County, VA; died April 02, 1854 in Taylor County, VA. She married Benjamin Mathews May 16, 1795 in Monongalia County, VA. Jesse Snider, born June 13, 1772 in Fauquier County, VA; died in Maple Run, Taylor, VA. He married LeeAnn Haddix June 13, 1792 in Fauquier County, VA. John Snider, born July 1773 in Fauquier County, VA; died 1842 in Fellowsville, Monongalia County, VA. Henry Snider, Jr., born 1778 in Fauquier County, VA. Francis Snider, born 1780 in Fauquier County, VA; Stepchild. She married James DeMoss July 06, 1805 in Fauquier County, VA. Jane Snider, born 1784 in Fauquier County, VA; Stepchild. She married James Bell January 29, 1819 in Fauquier County, VA. Nimrod Snider, born Bet. 1770 - 1780; died Abt. 1839 in Austen, Preston, VA; Stepchild. Joshua Snider, born Abt. 1798; Stepchild. He married Susanna Unknown. I believe that Nimrod who married Catherine Hall, had a son William who married Ellender Hall. Their children were John, Elias, Nimrod and Julia as described below. My great uncle, Elias Snyder, listed James Bell of Newburg as next of kin on Civil War records. There was an Abigail Snider who married James Bell in that era. According to the stories told by John Snyder the siblings: "John, Elias, Nimrod, and Julia walked from Kingwood, Preston County to Mason County before the Civil War." Julia could only have been about eight years old. The children seem to have changed the name from Snider to Snyder at that time. A Thomas and Elizabeth Snyder were already living near Elmwood in Mason County at that time. Later narratives have confused Thomas and Elizabeth for their parents. This suggests that the Snider children were coming to Mason County to live with relatives. Thanx for any help.
