Does anyone know how land and property taxes were collected. Did people go to the county auditor to pay their taxes or did the auditor come to them. Since courthouse records were destroyed, I have searched the land records. I find that the Sniders paid their taxes in clusters. As I recall, tax payment records were arranged alphabetically in the county. But, it appeared that many Sniders paid them on the same day. So did they live in close proximity to one another or did they come into town together to pay their taxes on a certain day. Does anyone know how that worked?
