Hi Bill, Yes, I found the census report also, so we know Mahala knew the Friend family at a very young age. However, since Mahala married in 1864, age 21, and had her last child at age 43, died two years later, it doesn't seem that she could have married twice. My thinking is that her mother was married to a Browning when Mahala was born but maybe later SHE married a Ringer. Thus Mahala may have used the surname of Ringer later in life and the children knew her by both names. OR, is it possible that Andrew married twice and to two women named Mahala? This doesn't really fit either or the family would have know of two graves. Nothing indicates this latter possibility. I don't know. Right now it is all pure conjecture, but one of those "quiz-lers" I can't seem to forget about. Oh, thank you too for the Twigg information. Pat-T
