Art, I have viewed the Kingwood Chronicle both at the WV Archives and WVU Library. The microfilm at WVU is of better quality. The Kingwood Chronicle was only published in 1861, the last issue being Aug 17 of that year. It's unfortunate the Row brothers were ran out of town by Secessionists or we would have had more Preston Co news during the Civil War years. The newspapers of Morgantown in neighboring Monongalia Co contain some Preston Co news. Also, the Fairmont and Clarksburg newspapers contain some Preston Co items. These newspapers are all on microfilm at WVU Library which has a larger newspaper collection than the WV Archives. I have spent most of 2 days with the microfilms of the Preston County Journal 1901 to 1908 issues that tended to include a lot of coal mine union news for Tunnelton - mentioning my great grandfather James O. Tuhill quite a few times. Have you ever seen copies/microfilms of the Kingwood Chronicle from 1861-2? Anyone else on the list know of more papers to use researching early Preston County?
