    1. Deakins family papers
    2. I understand that the WVU library has in their possession the Deakins Family Papers. Has anyone ever researched this collection? If so I was wondering if they might contain any ledger information on monetary accounts, i.e. names and monies paid by individuals for either the renting or buying of properties, etc? Or basically if there is any genealogical data about the Preston Co. area and individuals? thanks, Mike Sanders

    3. Mike, The Deakins Family Papers are heavily cited in The Four Goff Brothers of Western Virginia, co-authored by Roy Lockhart and me. The portion of the papers we used included a lot of information related to the real estate transactions of the Deakins family, including letters, surveys and plats. While this is not genealogical data such as vital statistics, it was an incredible resource in tracking the movements, challenges, thoughts and activities of all four of the Goff brothers, who were born between 1735 and 1748. 3. Mike, The Guide to Archives & Manuscripts in the West Virginia Collection at WVU can be searched online at: http://findingaids.lib.wvu.edu/cgi/f/findaid/findaid-idx?c=wvcguide For instance, typing Sanders in the search box produces 8 hits. The entire guide can be browsed page by page but this would be a time consuming process. Hope this helps, Roy Lockhart ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, June 29, 2006 4:42 AM Subject: [WV Preston County] Deakins family papers > I understand that the WVU library has in their possession the Deakins Family > Papers.
