    1. Re: [WV Preston County] Deakins family papers

    3. Mike, I examined every document in the Deakins Family Papers about 4-5 years ago while researching the Goff family of Preston Co. The Guide to Manuscripts and Archives in the West Virginia Collection sums up this collection as follows: Deakins Family. Papers, 1778-1925. 2 ft. Gift of Guy A. Deakins, 1950, 1954. Nos. 197, 624, 629. Materials on several generations of the Deakins family in Maryland and West Virginia. The first generation resided in Montgomery County, Maryland. From 1778 their interests are shown through deeds, agreements, surveys and plats, surveyors' field books, and court papers relating to acreage purchased in Harrison, Monongalia, Preston, Randolph, Tucker, and Upshur counties. Other papers center about Leonard M. Deakins (1747-1824) and his descendants. Among the correspondents or persons mentioned are Salathial and Thomas James Goff; Henry, George, and William Ashby; David and Philip Menear; Thomas Parsons; Benjamin Harrison; and John Evans. There is correspondence between Francis Deakins, Montgomery County, Maryland, and Benjamin Reeder and William McCleery at Morgantown, 1790-1803. A plat of the town of Salem, ca. 1792, is included. Has anyone ever researched this collection?
