    1. LAYTON CEM> HAZELTON PRESTON CO
    2. I took a road trip yesterday to Preston Co., in particular, to HAZELTON. I looked and looked and asked where the Layton Cem. is. No one seems to know, in fact, I was told there weren't any cemeteries in Hazelton. I also looked for SECOND STREET, I didn't find that either. I am looking for the grave of Elizabeth Sell Deahl, w/o Henry. Henry is buried in Barbour Co, but supposedly Elizabeth went back to the "DEAHL HOMESTEAD on SECOND STREET " in Hazelton after his death. Drove all around Hazelton, didin't take too long. I only saw 1 street other than route 26, I think that was the route number. I saw an old mill co. and some houses behind that, but I couldn't find anything I was looking for. Does anyone know where this LAYTON Cem, how do you get to it and where the Deahl Homestead was and if it is still standing. Thanks Bev

    1. Re: [WV Preston County] LAYTON CEM> HAZELTON PRESTON CO
    2. Bev: Sorry you had an unproductive trip. I can't imagine why anything would be listed on "Second Street" in Hazelton. However, Elizabeth is said to have died in 1842 and was buried, along with two young children in the "Layton" cemetery. Henry married second to Susan Markley VanSickle and is said to be buried in the "Omberson"/Humberson Cemetery in Maryland. In my TOMBSTONE READINGS OF PRESTON CO., Vol. II, p. 60,I have listed all that we could find at the Cuppett-Faulkner Cemetery in Grant District. It may have been known at one time as Leighton (not Layton) for the man (Isaac) who owned the surrounding property. It is located beside County Rt. 12/3 - Eisentrout Road - which is across Rt. 68 from the Welcome Center just inside the WV line. To get there you would take the road to the left of the mill in Hazelton and follow it almost until it crosses Rt. 68. There is one Leighton marker. Although that is the general area where Henry & Elizabeth lived, there is no marker for Elizabeth or any other Deal/Deahl. Elizabeth was a sister to my ancestor, Anna Sell, who married George Herring. Janice > > I took a road trip yesterday to Preston Co., in particular, to HAZELTON.
