Margaret Smith Hartzell had siblings although most of them were sisters there were a few brothers. She married a man from Somerset Co. PA but I'm not sure she was born there. Some census's say she was born in VA and some PA. But when his husband was in his 80's (when they married she was but 16 and he 63!) they moved from Somerset to Preston Co. and I'm just wondering if she moved to be closer to family since he was on deaths door (so to speak). He died in 1839. There were quite a few Smith's in Preston at the time and I'm figuring she had kin there. Preston Co. is the first county in WV after you travel South from Uniontown. It is just south of Morgantown. We went there two summers ago but if you don't know where you are going you can get into trouble. We drove and drove and went past Kingwood and then there are no motels or restaurants or anything decent the locals told me until you go over into West Maryland. So we had to turn back and drive all the way back to Morgantown for the night and then my husband said.. "No way!: when I wanted to return the next day. (I'm leaving him home next trip!)
Barbee - Next time, you need to know that there is a motel in Bruceton (Maple Leaf, reportedly very clean) and two usually crowded restaurants in the same town. You would also be very close to Valley Point where Margaret Smith Hartzell lived. Janice > > My Smiths would have been in Preston (if not always) back as far as > 1830.
