I have seen all different spellings for this surname. And they are found in WV. As well as Ontario Canada, Michigan, Ohio, PA, and out West. It just seems too close with the spelling. If you find nothing for Knisell, try the Knisley/or Nicely surname, and a fellow named Larry at this forum, or the other forums. Another Knisley/Nicely descendant is exploring the Native American possibilities in our family in early Virginia. Get back to me if you need leads on this. Kathy
