I am new to the List. J. Conrad Gies (a.k.a. Geis, Gice, Gise, Guice, Guise, Guyce, Guis and Geise) sold property near Accident, MD in late 1857. J. Conrad Gies and his wife, Netta, and their children: Louisa, William, Mary, Sarah and John C. Geis, cannot be located in the 1860 census as living in Maryland. In the 1870 census, William Gies was married and living back near Accident. Louisa, Mary and Sarah were married and living in Frostburg, MD. Is there anyone on the Preston County List that might have knowledge of this family or could give me directions that could determine if J. Conrad Gies, his wife, Netta, and son John Geis might have been living and possibly owning property in Preston County during the 1860 and 1870 census. In the 1880 census, Conrad and John are shown as living with Conrad's daughter, and John's sister, Louisa Wambach, in Frostburg. When John applied for a marriage license in 1881 he was shown as a widower. During the 23 years (1857-1880), Conrad's wife disappears, Conrad and his wife might have had a son, Philip, who was listed as whereabouts unknown in Conrad's obit in 1889, and John was probably married and his wife died. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Glyn
