    1. [WV Preston County] Lizzie Braham Freeland, Who in the world was she?
    2. Karen, Lizzie is a real puzzle. I have so little information on her. Supposedly she was born in September, 1864 in Pennsylvania. The 1900 census shows her in Terra Alta with husband and 4 boys. It gives her parents' place of birth as being PA also. She was married to James William Freeland on June 29, 1884 at her parents' home in Terra Alta. John W. Freeland performed the ceremony. Janice Cale Sisler said that the license was issued at the instance of William Paugh wih a letter from the father. I'm not sure what that means since she was over 18 yrs old. Lizzie had two children, Ernest and Louise, who died young and are both in Freeland cemetery. She also had three sons, Earl, Harry and Warden King Freeland (my grandfather.).She raised stepsons, Floyd and George, as James William had been married prior to Virginia F. Sisler prior to the marriage of Lizzie and Jim. Lizzie Mae Braham Freeland is buried in Terra Alta with a marked grave, 1864-1912. She died of cancer. Anyway, I'm still wondering who her parents are. I was guessing that they were James Braham married to Sarah Paugh, but I don't even know why! My grandfather, who was 8 or 9 when Lizzie died said he thought her family had had a bottling factory in Fairmont, but I think that was just another of his stories. He said his middle name came from a doctor. I found no Dr. King, but it was his grandmother's maiden name, Louisa (Koenig) King Freeland. James William Freeland later married Virginia Spurgeon, who had a son Frank. I remember visiting him in Brandonville. Any clues to follow are greatly appreciated. This remains a puzzle. Beverly
