Sorry if I misled you Bill...What I meant was that their were Rightmire's in Loudoun County from around 1775 until around 1800 and I think they may have been the same family that shows up in what is now Preston County around 1800...From a tax list of Monongalia County in the area of Preston County in 1803 ...three were named ...John, Robert and James Rightmire.....James possibly was the same James Rightmire listed as married to Elizabeth Daugherty in the road dispute... John Rightmire apparently operated a tavern in Preston County and may have married Anna Ashford and Robert married Susanah (?) and he is probably the Robert Rightmire buried in Wood County. I am descended from James Rightmire...He and Elizabeth went to the Knox/Coshocton/ Hardin Counties area of Ohio. John apparently stayed in the area of West Virginia and Robert had descendents (Benjamin and Samuel Rightmire)who stayed in Wood County. I am very interested in any clues as to the relationship of the Rightmire's (brothers, father and sons ???) and of course especially the parents of James Rightmire and where they came from before Virginia ...New Jersey ? New York ? and also interested in the Daugherty family since Elizabeth was my 3rd Great Grandmother. Also you may want to check the archives of this list as I have received some help in the past from the list and it should be archived Alice ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 03, 2006 4:12 PM Subject: Re: [WV Preston County] Elliott, Daugherty etc,etc > Hi Alice, > Yes. Abraham Elliott and Jane Daugherty(Dougherty) are my GGGG grandparents and there descendants have lived in Preston county, WV. for the last 200 years. Our tree says Abraham was the son of William Elliott of the Fort Pitt, Fayette county, PA. area, but none of the records regarding William Elliott of the 1760's says anything about his children. This William Elliott of Pennsylvania's western frontier is my road block(though I have found lots of information on him and his brothers Abraham and Edward). As far as Elizabeth Daugherty being the sister of my Jane Daugherty I am relatively certain she is, but can't prove it with documentation. I believe at one time I saw a will of John Dougherty stating some of his childrens and son-in-laws names. This might be found in Loudin county, VA. records of the time. I didn't know Preston county was called Loudin county before the civil war. I did read that Virginia tried to claim parts of Maryland and Pennsylvania before the Revo! > lutionary war.Sorry I couldn't be more helpful with your Rightmire research. > Bill Elliott > > -------------- Original message -------------- > From: "Alice" <[email protected]> > >> Hi Bill Elliott !
