    3. Pat, I've checked the GNIS (Geographical Names Information Service) at the website below: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic. The only "Strawberry Plains" listed in the USA is in Jefferson County, Tennessee. That does NOT mean that there was never a "Strawberry Plains" in Preston County WV, but at least what is probably the largest database of current and "extinct" (or as the GNIS calls them, "historical" features) geographical features in the U.S. does not list it for WV. If anybody knows of a larger database than the GNIS for searching for geographical features in the USA, please share the website. 3. Thanks for the reply Jim, We have found the area. It was in Garrett County, part of the large tract of land owned by Gen. John Swan and his "Small Meadows" which was located just outside (today's) Oakland, Maryland, near the West Virginia border. There is also a Strawberry Plains mentioned as bordering Friend's Delight, Sang Run, Maryland. The name probably no longer exists on today's maps ----- Original Message ----- From: "J. M.
