    2. Lee----I have done some research in Kingwood where I grew up so perhaps I can give you some information that will be helpful. The County Clerk's office is where you go to look for births, deaths and marriages, not in that order. If I remember correctly the fee for a certificate was either $3 or $5. The wills are there also but I'm not sure about deeds. The Preston County Journal office, almost across the street from the Court House, has microfilms of their newspapers. You may borrow them to take to the Library to use the reader (library is just in the next block so it is in comfortable walking distance. They ask that you leave your driver's license as security when you borrow the microfilms. It seems to me that I paid a small fee to make copies of certain articles in the Journal but it wasn't more than 10 cents. Very reasonable and fun skimming through the old papers. I found several missing ancestors that way. Enjoy your visit to Kingwood---it should be getting pretty up there with the leaves starting to change. Eleanor G.

    3. Eleanor, Births, deaths, marriages, deeds, wills and fiduciary records are all located in the County Clerk's office. Some of the older record books are stored in the basement. I didn't mention the Preston Co Journal office as they are trying to run a business and don't need the interruption of researchers. The Terra Alta Library also has Preston Co newspapers (Journal, Argus) on microfilm although not as extensive a collection as WVU but less hassle than going thru the Journal office as you don't need to produce your driver's license.
